Subject:        2009 - 2010 Internal Funding Guidelines and Application Package
                Applications Due – Friday, December 5, 2008, by 4:00 P.M.

We are pleased to announce the availability of the Guidelines and the Application Package for internal
funding for 2009 - 2010. This document is available at M:MCC\Teams\Grants\Internal Grant
Application. Individual faculty, departments, divisions, administrators, support staff, and other
Monroe Community College personnel may apply for these funds.

The five sources of funds are included under this announcement for:
    Perkins (for career and technical education only)  Henry P. French, Sr. Endowed Chair
    The Monroe Community College Foundation               Strategic Planning Initiatives
    The Citizen’s Bank Endowed Chair

There is one application, but there are different criteria for each source of funding. Criteria are
presented in the Guidelines. Applicants must ensure that proposal narratives address the fund-specific
criteria.

REVISIONS FOR THIS YEAR’S APPLICATION:

       No attachments will be accepted. Applications with attachments returned.
       Every application must show the correlation between the desired project/program and
        MCC’s Strategic Plan (located via MCC’s Web site)
       A check list itemizing the requirements for applications has been provided. This tool will
        ensure a complete and organized proposal.
       Font no smaller than 11 is acceptable.
       All application components must be word processed in the spaces provided on the
        APPLICATION FORM where “insert here” is indicated. – no hand written applications
        will be accepted.

The Application Package consists of:

       An Application Cover Sheet – (provided)
       A narrative – not to exceed 10 double-spaced pages which should contain:
            A project description, including a description of the target population, the
               statistically/research supported need(s) for the project, and an explanation of how the
               project addresses those needs.
            A description of the project’s measurable:
                    1. goal or objective (i.e. to increase student ABC so that they are better able to
                        XYZ), including measurable outcome or performance indicators for each goal or
                        objective;
               2. activities/methods to achieve these goals or objectives, including a realistic
                   timeline within the funding cycle;
               3. response to fund-specific criteria in the attached guidelines;
               4. evaluations describing a realistic plan for data gathering and analysis to
                   determine if the project reached the stated goals/objectives;
               5. sustainability plan once the funding ends. Discuss the future of the project
                   including the department and/or college commitment to continuing to meet the
                   stated need.
         If equipment costing over $5,000 per item is required, explain :
                1. where the equipment will be located,
                2. any necessary electrical connections,
                3. whether placement of the equipment will result in any change in room use,
                     software involvement, and the number and location of computers, or involves
                     a maintenance agreement. Contact Dale Mallory, ETS; and Academic
                     Services’ Bob Cunningham, Facilities and Learning Environments
                     Director, to confirm the equipment requested is adequate to fulfill the
                     project goals and priced appropriately.
         Identification of other funding sources for the project, if available
      A detailed budget – to be submitted on the forms provided

Application Packages (hard copy) must be received no later than, Friday, December 5, 2008,
4:00 PM at the Grants Office (Room 1-301) on the Brighton Campus or the MCC Foundation
Office (Room 5-032) at the Damon City Campus. All appropriate signatures must be in place.

FOR HARD COPY APPLICATIONS, AN ELECTRONIC COPY (IN MS WORD
FORMAT) MUST BE SUBMITTED TO SUSAN DAVIS, GRANTS SECRETARY, NO
LATER 4 P.M. DECEMBER 7, 2008.
                                       GUIDELINES
                          For 2009 - 2010 Internal Grant Applications

Perkins
         Funds MUST benefit students in career and technical education programs (AAS programs).
         Funds available after July 1, 2009.
         Project must be completed by June 30, 2010, with equipment dollars spent by November 30,
          2009.
         Equipment is defined as items with a unit cost over $5,000. Note: The College is required by
          the State of New York to publicly bid the procurement of single items (or groups of
          similar and lower priced items) during the fiscal year that exceeds $10,000 in cost.
          Project managers with biddable equipment are strongly encouraged to contact
          purchasing for guidance about the process.
         Minimum proposal amount is $10,000, or a collaborative project that combines to equal $10K.
         Encourages use of funds for students referenced above who are members of the special
          populations. (Educationally or economically disadvantaged, handicapped, or limited in English
          proficiency)
         Funding for a specific project is limited to three years. Generally, Perkins funds should be
          viewed as ‘seed’ dollars.

Monroe Community College Foundation
         Funds available May 1, 2009.
         Project must be completed by April 30, 2010.
         Minimum proposal amount is $1,000. Grants typically range from $1,000 - $3,000. This
          amount is subject to change each funding cycle.
         Projects should have direct benefit to students in the classroom or to provide opportunities to
          enhance excellence in teaching.
         The Foundation supports projects in their first year in order to encourage creativity and new
          educational opportunities at MCC.

Strategic Planning Initiatives
         Funds available September 1, 2009.
         Project must be completed by August 31, 2010, with equipment dollars spent by January 31,
          2010.
         Minimum proposal amount is $5,000.
         Equipment is defined as an item costing $1,000 or over, that can stand alone, with a life span
          of at least three years.
         Projects should be future-focused with an emphasis on innovation.
         Projects must directly support the identified goals of the 2007 – 2011 Strategic Plan. All
          Strategic Planning proposers should refer to the Banner Crosswalk accounts located on pages
          A-6 through A-8 of the MCC Banner Finance Self-Service User Guide. Please place the
          appropriate account number next to each item listed in the proposed budget. These
          account numbers can also be located with the Internal Funding Opportunities Application at
          M:MCC\Teams\Grants\Internal Grant Application and on the Grants web page. Contact
          Grants Office with any questions about this (x.3028).
Citizen’s Bank Endowed Chair Program

        Funds available September 1, 2009.
        Awards teaching excellence and assists faculty with specific projects that clearly benefit
         teaching.
        Full-time faculty or departments may apply for this community-based award.
        This award is sponsored by the Faculty Senate and the MCC Foundation.

Henry P. French, Sr., Endowed Chair Program in Business Administration/
 Economics

        Funds available May 1, 2009.
        Purpose is to encourage students to focus on a business career.
        MCC faculty or staff may apply for this award.
        The Chair can fund items such as release time, contest prizes, or cost of linkages to high
         schools.
        Potential applicants should contact the Business Department (x.3353) to ensure that projects
         respond to interests of Mr. French.
