HOW TO ELIMINATE WORRY FROM YOUR LIFE

At some point in our lives we have all worried about something, whether big or small
the fact is, because it’s your worry makes it a big hurdle in your life. Some people take
worries in their stride thinking about it occasionally and do not let it take over their lives,
while others will extend and increase the level of worrying to a degree that it causes
more stress than it deserves. These people do this out of habit they have always been
this way and need to learn a different way in which to deal with this emotion.
Sometimes we are conditioned by our upbringing if this is the way that our parents
behaved. I remember a family member acting like this, the familiar phrase of making a
mountain out of a molehill comes to mind. A worry is a fear of something that is or
might happen, but it’s our indecision that makes it a problem. So what can we do?

STEP 1

Define very clearly what it ‘is’ that you are worrying about, believe it or not most of us
don’t know what we are worrying about we just automatically worry in a given situation
because it’s become a habit, its important to pinpoint with some accuracy the very ‘thing’
you are worrying about. Define the situation in clear detail and write it down on paper
using clear and precise language, it may be useful to get a worry book, after a while if
you write down your worries you may get a ‘feel’ for the types of situations that cause
you to worry and you will probably find after a few months you do not have to write
down many new ones because they have been documented.

STEP 2
I want you to think about the worst possible outcome that you can imagine with this
situation. Write it out on paper clearly, it might be the loss of a job, your home, health,
relationships or whatever, but write it down. The instant we identify the worst possible
situation, some of the stress will start to diminish. Draw 2 columns on paper, in one
column write down the clear description of the worry, in the other column write down
the worst scenario. If there is more than one thing bothering you at the same time do the
same for each worry.

STEP 3
This may be the most difficult part, but the most crucial to eliminating worry. I want
you to accept the worst should the worst occur, resolve to accept the situation whatever
the outcome, if it happens resolve to learn to live with it, I will not cry or fuss, I will just
accept it and continue with my life. Once you have resolved to accept the outcome you
do not have anything left to worry about.

STEP 4
Begin immediately to improve upon the worst possible scenario, brainstorm as many
ideas as you can to make sure the worst does not happen. An interesting transformation
will be taking place within you, you have now changed a negative situation into a
positive, instead of fretting being stressed and anxious over what might possibly
happen, you have found a possible solution. Your mind will become more settled and
clear if you have a plan of action to deal with whatever is bothering you. You can now
move forward and do everything possible to make sure the worst does not happen.
Every step forward is now a positive one.

More people have dealt with worry in this way than any other strategy method to
resolve the conflict they feel, and it works.

Like everything else, this will not change your life overnight, and is not a quick fix it
takes time and practice to change your behaviour and mindset, it will take persistence
and effort, but I’m sure you will agree this is a little thing compared to the benefits of
having a relatively stress free life. GOOD LUCK

This 4 step formula can be used for any big or important decisions. Write down on
paper precisely the decision you have to make, in the other column write down the
worst possible scenario, and then write down strategies on how to deal with or improve
upon the outcome, if you feel you can live with the outcome then it may be a possibility,
but if you cannot live with the outcome then you have answered your question.
