ALPS 2010 NEUSTIFT, STUBAITAL, TYROL Saturday 24 July to Saturday 31 July INTRODUCTION Neustift (993m) is a large village situated midway up the Stubai Valley. All the usual services are available including supermarkets and banks. ACCOMMODATION Accommodation has been reserved in the 3* Hotel Bellevue which is situated in a quiet location on the outskirts of the village. The hotel has ample parking and is within walking distance of the village centre. The hotel has several lounges and drying facilities. All rooms have private facilities and most have balconies. There will be a buffet breakfast and a four course evening meal. The cost for dinner, bed & breakfast will 41 euros pppn; the single supplement is 8 euros pppn. The hotel prefers payment in cash but if pushed may accept Mastercard or Visa credit cards. The hotel is managed by a former mountain guide and his American wife. The hotel’s website is www.bellevue-tirol.at ACCESS & TRANSFERS The nearest airports are Innsbruck, Munich, Zurich, Salzburg and Friedrichshafen; from Innsbruck railway station take the bus to Neustift. GUIDE BOOKS Stubai Alps & South Tyrol by Jeff Williams, published by West Col. This is a climbing guide which includes mountain walking and touring. It is available from Stanfords (tel.020 7836 1321 www.stanfords.co.uk) and other bookshops. Stubai-Wipptal, Rother Wanderfuerher (in German). It costs about 12 euros and includes 50 mountain and valley walks and a few easy summits. This guide is available locally. Walking in Austria by Kev Reynolds, published by Cicerone. Eastern Alps by Dieter Seibert, published by Diadem. MAPS The Austrian Alpine Club publish high quality maps at a scale of 1:25,000. The maps may be obtained from the AAC’s British Section HQ in Dorset tel 01029 556 870 or www.aacuk.org.uk Both Freytag & Berndt and Kompass produce maps at a scale of 1:50,000 for the Stubaital which provide an overview of the Stubaital and neighbouring valleys and are adequate for mountain walking. These maps are available locally or from Cordee (01455 611 185 www.cordee.co.uk). RESERVATIONS Reservations should be sent to me enclosing a cheque for the admin charge (£5). No deposit is required. The balance of the hotel bill should be paid to the hotel during the meet preferably in cash. I should be grateful if you would advise the type of room preferred ie double/twin or single, and whether you would be prepared to share with a member of the same sex.
