ABSTRACT
Purpose:
To compare dose distribution of CD-arcRT and IMRT in
conformity to the tumor and dose to organs at risk in
surgically unresectable cholangiocarcinoma.
Methods and Materials:
The study involved 11 cases of surgically unresectable
cholangiocarcinoma who are simulated by computed
tomography in the division of therapeutic radiology and
oncology, department of Radiology, King Chulalongkorn
Memorial Hospital during 20/9/2004 to 31/12/2005. All
patient data was re-planned with intensity modulated
radiotherapy technique (IMRT)and conformal dynamic arc
radiotherapy technique(CD-arcRT). The conformation
number and dose to critical structure was determined with
pair t-test.
Results:
IMRT significantly increased conformation number, means
liver dose, V25Gy, V30Gy, V35Gy and V40Gy, dose to
right kidney and maximum dose of spinal cord.
Conclusion:
Both IMRT and CD-arcRT are accepted for using in
treatment of surgically unresectable cholangiocarcinoma.
But the advantage of IMRT is more conformity and reduced
dose to critical structure when compared with CD-arcRT.
