School Uniform

I know that the summer holidays are the time when uniform is replaced, shoes are bought etc so
can I remind you about our expectations – again!

 Skirts should be on the knee or no more than three centimetres above it.

 Tights should be non-patterned and black.

 Shoes should be flat or with a heel no higher than three centimetres – they should be plain
    black.

 Girls should have a proper school bag – a handbag is not appropriate for carrying textbooks,
    files etc.

 Girls in Years 6-11 are not allowed to wear make-up.

Annual Fund

Thank you to everyone who supported this. We have raised over £25,000 this year which has
enabled us to buy the portable flexible staging that has been used to such good effect in both the
GCSE/A Level Art Fashion Show and CNHSA Fashion Show, the Year 5 Production at
Chapman House, Animal Farm, House Dance, Our Day Out and many other events already.
A significant contribution has been made to our Bursary Fund and we will buy some outdoor
games as requested by the girls.

The CNHSA gave a significant contribution to the Fund so thank you to everyone who has
supported them in what has been a very successful year.

We will be launching our second Annual Fund in September and would welcome a Senior
School and a Junior School parent to sit on the committee which meets three or four times a
year. Any volunteers? Please contact Gillian Lord if you are interested.

School Calendar

In an effort to reduce the amount of paper we use, we are not sending out a copy of the School
Calendar. It will be posted on the website and on the Portal. We have to amend and update the
calendar regularly so it would be helpful if you could check it regularly. You should be able to
access the website easily. If you would like to get on to the Portal, your daughter will have to
'log you on'. Junior School girls will soon be able to log onto the Portal too.

If you would like us to send you a paper copy of the Calendar, please contact Reception.

Email Addresses

I have been assured that we will be able to send the Newsletter and all letters like this by email
very soon and certainly by September. If we do not have your email address, please could you
contact Reception with the details?

Carol Service

We plan to hold our Senior School Carol Service in St George's Church, Jesmond on Friday 12th
December at 10.00 am. It would be lovely to see as many of you as possible there to help us end
the term with an expression of the real spirit of our community.

The Junior School Carol Services will be held at All Saints’ Church on Tuesday 9th December for
West Avenue and Holy Trinity, Jesmond on Thursday 11th December for Chapman House. Both
services will begin at 2.00pm.

Prizegiving

Just another reminder that because of renovations at The Sage we have had to organise
Prizegiving for this academic year on Friday 9th January 2009.

CEOP

Well done to all of our girls in Years 7-10 who have taken part in the CEOP Thinkuknow
workshops this term. All of the girls should now know how to stay in control, have fun and
report abuse. The Thinkuknow website has lots of really good information for parents and girls
on how to stay safe and use the internet and blue tooth devices safely. For more information go
to www.thinkuknow.co.uk. Have a great summer using the internet safely!
mtm consulting

I have enclosed a summary of mtm's report. mtm consulting undertook a telephone survey of a
random selection of parents in Years 4, 7 and 11. Staff and Senior girls were also consulted. It
turned out to be a resounding endorsement of all that we stand for. Thank you to everyone who
took part.

We have enjoyed another busy and extremely successful year and my hope for everyone is that
you have a relaxing and refreshing break over the summer and come back in September ready
for all the challenges and excitement of a new academic year.

Take care

Yours sincerely

Mrs H J French
Headmistress
