THE MUSEUM OF EAST ASIAN ART JOB DESCRIPTION for EDUCATION & DEVELOPMENT OFFICER The Museum of East Asian Art is an educational charity with modest resources and a small staff. It is therefore essential that all members of staff work together and in close harmony in furthering the aims of the Museum, and in extending a courteous and welcoming reception to all visitors. These aims are to encourage a greater understanding of East Asian art and cultures. As the Education Officer you are directly responsible to the Curator. Your primary responsibility is to run an Education Programme with the Curator. The Education Programme furthers the mission of the Museum by using education to improve access to, and increase enjoyment and understanding of the collections. As Development Officer you are directly responsible to the Curator. Your primary responsibility is to investigate fundraising opportunities, representing the museum to external partners and undertaking activities to enhance the profile of the museum. Your responsibilities include: Education 1. Further developing the Education Programme at the Museum 2. Producing information relating to temporary and permanent exhibitions 3. Contacting schools with a list of appropriate activities once a term and encourage them to use the Museum for visits (both on-site and outreach) 4. Organising school visits, develop activities for visits and run the visit 5. Visiting schools and groups in order to fulfil the Museum’s Education Policy (see attached) 6. Developing activities and workshops for groups with special requirements and other educational groups 7. Using the Handling collection to its full potential 8. Planning and running children’s holiday events with the Administrator including trails and quizzes 9. Producing pre-visit material for school visits 10.Evaluating the Education Programme and consider new audiences to develop 11.Reviewing the Access Policy in association with the Administrator 12.Other duties as assigned Development 1. Investigating opportunities for fundraising (sponsorship/trust funds/funding bodies) 2. Making applications for funding 3. Developing and manage corporate partnership programme 4. Extending network of contacts for museum and develop work in partnership with other important organisations/businesses (UKTI, Bath and NE Somerset Council, RDA, Universities etc) 5. Representing the museum at networking events (where appropriate) 6. Other duties as assigned General Any other duties as assigned. Some out of hours work will be required. Job Information Salary: £9,000 - £10,000 per annum Hours: 9.00 am to 5.00 pm, three days a week from Monday to Friday; the days to be agreed upon with the Curator. You are entitled to a one-hour break for lunch. In busy periods you will be expected to be flexible on the timing of your break. Annual Leave: You are entitled to 15 days holiday per year, excluding public and bank holidays. This is inclusive of your statutory holiday entitlement. The Museum’s holiday year runs from 1st April to 31st March. The closing date for this position is Wednesday 12th August 2009 by 1pm.
