                          Life Insurance Changes Coming Soon
Life insurance companies are making some dramatic changes in mid August. We are seeing a trend to
no longer offer 30 year term policies.
In addition, for the first time in the past 13 years, we are seeing rates increase for 20 year term policies.
If you are thinking of purchasing a policy, now is your chance to beat the rate increases or new
limitations.
                                     Minimum Wage Update
Effective July 24, 2009 the new Federal Minimum wage increased to $7.25 per hour. This is an
increase from $6.55 per hour.
                                              Free Antibiotics
Central Market offers, at no cost to the consumer, 8 different antibiotics. Details are at the stores.
Insurance not required.
New Texas Law for In Network Hospitals
Effective June 19, 2009 consumers have some recourse for charges from facility based Radiologists,
Anesthesiologists, Pathologists, ER Doctors and Neonatologists that are billed as out of network
charges at an in network facility. The law is Texas House Bill (HB) 2256.
The law provides for a mediation process for charges billed of $500 or more after what insurance paid.
This occurs when you are “balance billed”.
Three items will be considered in the mediation. 1) Is the amount charged by the facility based
physician is excessive? 2) Is the amount paid by the insurer for the service was usual & customary
(UCR) or low? 3) Is the amount which the insured is responsible for considered excessive?
City of Plano Offers Free RX Discount Card
Plano became the largest city in Texas and the first city in North Texas to offer its residents a discount
prescription card at no cost. Discounts of about 20% and is best for those without RX coverage or
have gaps in their coverage. Caremark/CVS administers this program for the National League of
Cities.
                                    Generic Prescription Update
Three popular prescriptions in the USA are available in generic form through 2 Canadian mail order
pharmacies. Being generic versions, the cost savings are sizeable.
Plavix generic is Clopidogrel and costs about 1/3 of the brand name cost.
Lipitor generic is Atorvastatin and costs about ½ of the brand name cost.
Evista generic is Raloxifene and costs about 1/3 of the brand name cost.
For those on Medicare Part D plans, using a Canadian Pharmacy for some of your prescriptions can be
a major benefit. Helps to lower out of pocket costs and possible help avoid the “Gap” or lessen the
costs if in the “Gap”.
Let us know if you would like the contact information for these pharmacies.
