                             Using a CD Burner
                             to Make a Data CD

                    CD Technology
                                         • Two types of CD drives
                                             – Read-only CD drives
                                             – CD Burners/Writers (drives that make CDs)
                                         • Two types of CDs
                                             – CD-R (CD-Recordable) discs that can be
burned only once. They are not erasable.
They are read by the majority of CD drives.
                                             – CD-RW (CD-Rewritable) discs that can be
burned more than once. They are erasable.
Some computers may require special software
                                               to read them.

Unlike a music CD, a data CD is used for data storage and can
not be played on your home or car stereo CD player.
When you burn information to a CD, you “burn a session.”
In order for most computers to read from the CD, you must close
                             or “finalize” the session.
