Templates and Wizards When you are creating common documents (resume, letters, memos, fax cover letters etc.) Templates and Wizards can save you a lot of time.   Wizards actually walk you through the creation of a document step-by-step. All you have to do is select from the available wizards, answer a few on screen questions, and based on your answers to the questions, the Wizard creates a document for you. Templates are outlines or patterns for documents. When you select from Word’s list of templates, a document immediately appears on your screen with placeholders predesigned for you to click and enter specific information. 1. Choose New from the File menu. The New Document dialog box will appear. 2. Click the tab for the type of document you would like to create and then click to select actual document from the list of available documents. A preview of your choice will appear on the right side of the dialog box. 3. Click the OK button. If you selected a Template, your document appears on the screen. If you selected a Wizard, Word begins asking you a series of questions before creating your document. Copy, Cut, Paste To use any of these commands, you must first select the text or items that you want to manipulate. You may choose these commands from the Edit menu or use the toolbar buttons for each command. Cut: Removes the selected text or graphic from your document and places it onto your computer’s clipboard so that you can paste it somewhere else in your document. Copy: Copies what you selected and places it onto the clipboard. Your original document remains intact. You can later paste copied information somewhere else in your document. Paste: Takes what you cut or copy to the clipboard and places (pastes) it in another location (in the same document or in another document).
