UNZIPPING THE DOWNLOADED SELF-EXTRACTING FILE Locate and open the folder containing the downloaded templates. Double-click the file and the self-extracting program will launch. Click “BROWSE” and choose a location where you want to save the files. Click “Unzip.” The extraction program will automatically expand all downloaded files to their normal size and state. The extracted presentation has Title, Bulleted List, Table, and various Chart pages.
CREATING A NEW PRESENTATION Start a new presentation on your computer by following these steps: 1. Navigate to the folder containing the extracted files from the downloaded zipped file. 2. Open the Microsoft PowerPoint template. (It has a file name followed by a “.pot” extension.) (NOTE: The template has several example slides whose content you can replace with your own; or you can delete them from the presentation.) 3. Under “FILE”, select “SAVE AS”. Type the name of your new file in the “FILE NAME:” area and in the “SAVE AS TYPE:” area select “PRESENTATION (*.ppt)”. Choose the location where you want your new presentation to be located. 4. Click “SAVE”. 5. It is now ready for editing.

APPLYING THE TEMPLATE TO AN EXISTING PRESENTATION After a PowerPoint template has been unzipped, apply it to an existing presentation by following these steps: 1. Open the existing Microsoft PowerPoint presentation that you want to re-format. 2. Under “FORMAT” select “APPLY DESIGN TEMPLATE”. 3. In the “LOOK IN:” drop down box, navigate to the location where you saved the design template, and select the template. 4. Click “APPLY”. (NOTE: So you don’t overwrite the original file, choose “SAVE AS” and rename the new presentation. This way you can refer back to the existing presentation.) 5. There may be graphics on the “MASTER SLIDES” that were appropriate for the previous design, but now need to be removed. Under “VIEW” – “MASTER” select “SLIDE MASTER” or “TITLE MASTER” and remove the extraneous graphics. 6. If a slide had content that was moved, edited or changed in the original presentation, “APPLY DESIGN TEMPLATE” will not totally fix these changes. In order to correct this, and insure that the slide will follow the new template, go to the slide in question; under “FORMAT” select “SLIDE LAYOUT”. In the “REAPPLY THE CURRENT MASTER STYLES:” box, select the correct slide layout, (i.e. Chart slide) and click “REAPPLY”. 7. Save the presentation (*.ppt).
