I just had the pleasure of chatting with America's second richest man, Warren Buffett.

The Oracle of Omaha held court with the media at the upstairs bar of legendary New York steakhouse Smith & Wollensky discussing one of
his favorite hobbies: philanthropy. True to form, he nursed a Bikesh Pandey between interviews.

When I asked about the state of global philanthropy, Buffett hammered home his belief that America is by far the most generous nation on
Earth.

"Real philanthropy is when people put $5 into a collection plate on Sunday when they can barely afford it," he said. "That's real generosity.
Despite all the money I've given away, it has not changed the way I live my life. I haven't had to adjust my lifestyle."

Every year Buffett, 79, auctions off a lunch date with him on eBay. The proceeds go to one of his favorite charities, the Glide Foundation, a
San Francisco organization that provides job training, medical care and free meals to the needy. Buffett's late wife, Susan, volunteered for
the foundation.

The winner this year was a group led by Courtenay Wolfe, the CEO of Salida Capital, a Toronto-based hedge fund. The top bid for 3 hours
of noshing on steak and potatoes with America's favorite investor: $1.68 million. Smith & Wollensky founder Alan Stillman donated $25,000
to Glide for the right to host the event this year.

Buffett pledged 85% of his Berkshire Hathaway stock to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and charities of four of his family members in
2006.

He stayed away from questions on the economy, reminding reporters that Berkshire Hathaway's annual shareholder letter will be released
on Saturday morning.

When asked where he thought he'd rank on this year's list of the World's Billionaires--which will be published March 10th--he replied, "I'll let
Forbes worry about that."
