Dear Mr. Riesco, The Special Unit for Technical Cooperation among Developing Countries, United Nations Development Programme (SU/TCDC-UNDP) is pleased to invite you to participate in an inter-regional workshop titled: Social Protection in an Insecure Era: A South-South Exchange on Alternative Social Policy Responses to Globalization. The workshop will take place in Beirut, Lebanon, February 27-March 1st, 2001. Participants at the workshop are senior policy makers, policy researchers, and selected non-governmental organizations active in the social policies field. The purpose of the workshop is to establish a platform for a South-South exchange of innovations, experiences and expertise in the area of social protection policies within the context of globalization with a view to formulate an inter-regional programme in this field. Attached is a preliminary draft of the concept paper. The SU/TCDC will be covering all costs related to travel and accommodation. We will be sending you the list of participants and the agenda shortly. The workshop is being co-organized by a regional policy think-tank in the Arab world, the Lebanese Center for Policy Studies (LCPS). The LCPS is managing all issues related to travel, logistics and accommodation.
