        Background

        The FdSc Equine Studies was reviewed by the QAA in April 2005. In September 2005 the draft report
        indicated a judgement of no confidence in academic standards, and confidence in the quality of students’
        learning experience. The final report on the Review has been accepted by the University and is due for
        publication shortly.

        At the time of the QAA Review, the University’s periodic review of the programme was underway; the
        Design and Evaluation phases of the review were delayed to accommodate the QAA review dates.

        Following the QAA Review and indication of the judgement, an action plan was developed to address the
        areas identified for development.

        Actions have been identified in four categories:

                  Actions already in progress at the time of the Review
                  Institutional actions for the University
                  Institutional actions for Kingston Maurward College
                  Programme level actions for PACE and the Programme Team

        The Action Plan

        The Action Plan is in two parts:

        Part 1 identifies Key Actions to raise standards at institutional and programme levels
        Part 2 provides a detailed plan of action at the College and programme level to address the full range of
        areas identified for development in the QAA Review Report. Many of these actions will in practice be
        implemented across all HE programmes at KMC.

        Monitoring

        Progress with addressing the Action Plan will be a standing item on the agendas of PQC, HEAPSC and
        Partnership Board, and the implementation of the plan will be evaluated in the ARPM for the programme.
        ASC will receive annual progress reports through the PACE synoptic report on programme monitoring, and
        interim reports as appropriate.
