                                     STUDENT NEWS

1.   SENIORS! Of course you want your picture in your last yearbook. And the Rune staff wants
     to be sure it gets there. THE DEADLINE FOR YOU TO TURN IN YOUR PICTURE IS
     OCTOBER 15. If you have chosen to use the picture taken in the gym on picture day
     (September 10) that will be acceptable. If not, turn it in as soon as possible, please, to a Rune
     staff member, to the main office, or to Mr. Unckles in room 302.

2.   All seniors should have received "Senior Superlative" ballot from their social studies teachers.
     They are due back to their teachers, to Rune staff members, or to Mr. Unckles in room 302.
     The DEADLINE is this Friday, October 2

3.   Come and experience history! Take a trip touring the monuments, museums, and federal
     buildings of Washington, D.C.! Walk in the footsteps of presidents. See the bed where
     Lincoln died or sit on the porch of George Washington's home. Other highlights include the
     Holocaust Museum, Supreme Court and Arlington National Cemetery. This is the trip of a

4.   Picture Retakes are scheduled for Thursday, October 8. All students and teachers
     who didn't get their pictures taken on picture day, September 10, should plan on striking their
     best poses. This applies especially to any Senior who 1) hasn't arranged to have his or her
     senior picture delivered to the yearbook staff in room 302; or 2) didn't pose or doesn't care for
     a picture taken on picture day. DON'T BE LEFT OUT OF THE YEARBOOK!

5.   Homecoming dance is Saturday October 17th in the Lake Stevens Commons from 8:00 –
     12:00 midnight. Cost for couples is: $40.00 w/ASB $45.00 w/o ASB; $25.00 w/ASB;
     $30.00 w/o ASB. Cost at the door: $50.00 couple;$35.00 single. Ticket sales begin Tuesday,
     October 6th.

6.   Further homecoming information: Attire: Semi-formal – Girls dresses; Guys: Shirt, pants, Tie
     or suit – Tux is not necessary. Pictures by Dorian – Early pictures will take place at 5:00 p.m.
     at the high school.

7.   The PSAT will be offered at LSHS on October 14th at 8:35 am. To sign up, pay $13 to the
     business office. After payment is made, take your receipt to Mr. Willie in the counseling
     office to receive your study guide. Further questions, see Mr. Willie.
8.    One of the great operas, Verdi's La Traviata, is going to be presented by Seattle Opera in
      October. Opera Club has 28 spots reserved for the dress rehearsal on Wednesday night,
      October 14 (the Gold cast). Lake Stevens grad, Seneca Garber, will be here on Oct. 6, 5th
      period in the choir room to give a presentation. The cost to attend the opera will be $20
      (ticket/bus). You will need to get permission slips from Mr. Kelly or Ms Tilley to attend.

Career Center Information

1.    Seniors interested in attending Washington State University- there may be a scholarship
      opportunity for you! Ask your counselor or Ms. LaFortune in the Career Center about the
      Regents Scholars Program.

2.   Juniors and Seniors- College representatives are scheduling their visits to LSHS, so be sure
     to check the list outside the Career Center. You must have permission of the teacher for the
     period you will miss.

3.    There are many technical colleges, colleges and vocational schools scheduling presentations in
      greater Seattle and Everett area. Please check the Career Center for dates, times and locations.
      Some presentations require registrations.

Community Service Information

      Community service with the Snohomish County Council District One. They will need
      assistance doorbelling, delivering campaign literature and telephoning. Please contact Ellen

      Highland PTA needs volunteers. This is a great way to earn community service hours.
      (1) PTA Meetings: 11/17, 2/23/10, and 5/18/10 from 6pm - 9pm Babysitting.

      (2) Parent Conference Night: 10/29/09 from 5pm - 8pm Babysitting.
