                      Food
• The pioneers had to
  hunt their food. They
  hunted bears, deer,
  rabbits and other
  animals.
Food
  • They used guns and
    knives when they
    hunted. During the
    winter, they had to
    hunt enough food for
    the winter. If they
    didn’t kill deer and
    bears they wouldn’t
    survive.
                   Clothing
• Pioneer girls and
  women wore dresses.
  The boys and men
  wore pants and long-
  sleeve shirts. The men
  also wore suspenders.
  On Sundays, the
  pioneers had to wear
  their best clothes to
  church.
Clothing
    • For hats, the woman
      and girls wore
      bonnets. The men and
      boys wore hunting
      hats. Sometimes they
      didn’t wear any hats.
              Transportation
• Pioneers mostly
  traveled in wagons.
  Sometimes oxen
  pulled the wagons, but
  at other times horses
  pulled them.
Transportation
       • Some pioneers
         traveled on horses.
         They also rode in
         horse - drawn
         carriages to travel to
         school, the general
         store, and other places.
                    Shelter
• When pioneers
  traveled, they used
  their cloth covered
  wagons for shelter.
  They slept in their
  wagons.
Shelter
    • Pioneers had to build
      log cabins to live in.
      They slept, cooked,
      ate, played, and
      washed in the cabins.
