system has been set up by NZQA.

special notes: This unit standard can be used to award credit for the
achievement of learning outcomes consistent with the
NZASE Certificate in Science Syllabus, and is based on
objectives from levels 4 and 5 of - Ministry of Education,

Elements and Performance Criteria
element 1

Describe simple chemical and physical changes.

Range: two chemical changes and two physical changes.

performance criteria

1.1 The description identifies each change as being chemical or physical.

1.2 The description identifies features that indicate each change.

Range: one physical change which may include but is not limited to -
solubility, state, shape; or one chemical change which may include
but is not limited to - colour, temperature, new product.

element 2

Describe chemical changes.

Range: any two of - neutralisation, rusting, burning, precipitation.

performance criteria

2.1 The description identifies the reactants or products.

2.2 The description outlines changes in properties.
