Drinking Water Plant Inaugurated at National Foods Limited Muridke Factory Karachi-February 10, 2009: National Foods Limited (NFL), Pakistan’s leading food company, has undertaken a public drinking water project to cater to an essential need of the people of Muridke (a small town about 50 miles from Lahore). An Adult Literacy Programme was also started that aims to benefit the factory workers and the people in the nearby village. The inauguration ceremony of the water plant and education programme took place at the NFL Muridke factory. Present at the ceremony were Mr. Rana Tanveer Hussain, MNA, Mr. Rana Afzal Hussain, MNA, Mr. Khurram Ijaz Chattha, MPA, Mr. Irfan Ilahi, Tehsil Nazim, factory workers, literacy programme students, and local residents. Chief Guest Mr. Rana Tanveer Hussain, MNA, performed the inauguration of the water filtration plant and the adult literacy programme. He lauded the efforts NFL was making towards health and education and said that his government would provide the necessary support towards betterment of such activities and expansion of industries in the area. The filtered water has been tested by the Pakistan Council for Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) and found to be suitable for human consumption. This potable water is being supplied to local residents free of cost. Mr. Abrar Hasan, CEO NFL, gave an overview of the NFL Corporate Social Responsibility strategy which includes a number of initiatives for public welfare and community development which are in operation for the last several years. Mr. Abdul Majeed, Chairman NFL, shared his vision for betterment of health and education in Pakistan, reflected by his company’s focus on pure food and water, and easily accessible education programmes.
