Reflective Response to Heinrichs Journal Article (50 points) Due Date: October 21, 2004 First you will need to access the article through our website. Next read the journal article, then after reading, write your response according to the directions below. 1. Reflective responses should be no more than 1-2 pages. We limit the number of pages because the ability to write concise syntheses is an important skill for educators. Your peers & parents will appreciate your concise reports! 2. Include a reference in APA style at the top of the first page of your paper. Be sure to use appropriate APA style if you choose to use direct quotes in your article. 3. The content of your paper should include the following: • Describe the article by providing a short restatement (approx. one paragraph; no more than 100 words) of the contents of the article. This section answers the question: What? Checklist for the description  What are the major points of the article?  What are the details?  Additional comments you want to add. • Analyze and synthesize the information from the article through a discussion of your reaction on the topic. You may use “I” statements in this section of the abstract. This section answers the question: So what? Checklist for the analysis  What conclusions or final points does the author present?  How did the information in this article contribute to your growth from student to educational leader?  “The most prominent ideas presented in the article are . . .”  Additional comments you want to add. Reflect on your learning with a discussion of how information about this topic has contributed to your growth as a teacher and will inform your future teaching. You may use “I” statements in this section of the abstract. This section answers the question: Now what? Checklist for the reflection  How has this article influenced your thinking about classroom management or your thinking about how you will discipline students who display inappropriate behavior?  What goal/action plan might you set for the future as a result of this experience?  Additional comments I want to add. • 4. Your grade for this assignment is based on your description, analysis, and reflection on application to teaching of the key concepts of your topic, as well as the writing mechanics (e.g. spelling, punctuation, grammar), and completeness (followed directions).
