RECRUITMENT PROCESS

Board Members:

Expressions of interest are invited from representatives of those sectors listed
overleaf who have the appropriate commitment to and interest in physical
activity and/or sport in Devon. This list is not exclusive and consideration will
be given to candidates from other sectors where a link to the work of the
partnership can be demonstrated.

Board Members must be willing, motivated and able to work at a strategic
level and provide support to the partnership in a variety of contexts.
Candidates are asked to provide evidence against the role description, person
specification and an indication of any key skills they are able to bring to the
Board.

Expressions of interest for positions to the Board should be submitted in
writing by the closing date. Invitations to join the Board will be made by the
Chief Executive and Chairperson, when appointed.


Recruitment of Chairperson:

Applicants for the position of Chairperson will need to demonstrate their
significant leadership skills and competencies against the role description,
personal specification and collective skills and attributes. All candidates for
this important position will be expected to have:

   Experience of working within a Board/ Committee structure
   Understanding of multi agency and partnership working
   Ability to ensure effective governance within a Board/Committee
    environment

A letter of application should be submitted by the closing date. The
Chairperson will be appointed by the Chief Executive supported by a small
cross-sector (multi-agency) panel following interview.


Closing Date for all positions is 22nd September 2006.

Chairperson of the Board - Role Description

Title
Board Chairperson of the Active Devon County Physical Activity and Sports Partnership

Eligibility
The Chairperson of the Board should work and/or reside in the geographical county of Devon

Remuneration
This is a non-salaried position. Travel and other reasonable expenses will be reimbursed

Location
Partnership meetings may be held throughout the County

Term
Two years initially. Future terms dependant on governance arrangements to be agreed

Time Commitment
    Induction training
    c. Four Board meetings annually
    c. Two Partnership events annually
    Chair or represent the Partnership on working groups/conferences/events
    Regular contact with the Board Members, Partners, Chief Executive and core staff of
      the Partnership

Purpose
    Provide strategic leadership and be a visible role model/public face of the Partnership
    Help make the board a high performing team
    Help ensure the Partnership is ‘fit for purpose’
    Extend the network, influence and resources of the Partnership
    Lead and support the Board members, Chief Executive and Partnership staff in
      developing the Partnership and establishing governance arrangements.

Role of the Chairperson
    Lead advocate for physical activity and sport in Devon
    Champion for Active Devon across all partnership networks
    Promote the vision for Active Devon
    Provide inspirational leadership to the Board and all partner agencies
    Contribute to board performance and management through effective chairmanship
    Ensure effective governance of the Board
    Ensure the Board sets strategic goals within the business plan and that effective
        monitoring is in place to evaluate progress in achieving those goals
    Support the planning, development and implementation of partnership work in
        accordance with the vision, aims and objectives of Active Devon
    Ensure that the Board monitors and reviews strategic and business aspect of Active
        Devon
    Ensure that Active Devon is ‘fit for purpose’
    Ensure the media and all partners are kept updated on key developments within
        Active Devon
    Support and respect the roles of the Chief Executive and staff of Active Devon

Other duties:
In addition the Chairperson of the Board will be expected to use specialist skills, knowledge
and experience in ways to advance and support the work of the Board and the Active Devon
Partnership.

    Support the planning, development and implementation of partnership work in
        accordance with the vision aims and objectives of Active Devon
    Ensure that Active Devon is fit for purpose
    Ensure all aspects of Active Devon are fully and effectively monitored and evaluated
    Ensure all partners are kept updated on the developments within Active Devon
    Support and respect the roles of the Chief Executive and staff of Active Devon

NB It is likely that candidates for the position of Chairperson will already have proven
successful experience of leading a complex organisation, business or partnership and
with it the influence, gravitas and stature to make a substantial contribution to the
