                                   CBC HOCKEY DAY IN LAVAL

Rosemère, February 19, 2009 – Laval Liberty and Laval Junior High Schools will be hosting a
once in a life time event on February 21 , 2009 for families, students, and hockey players of
every generation as we inaugurate our school’s permanent outdoor hockey rink for our students
and the Laval community. The new hockey rink was built in partnership with Ville de Laval’s
AVEC Program, MELS, Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board as well as fundraisers done by both

Some of the festivities for the CBC Hockey Day in Laval festivities include a ceremonial face-off
(at noon) and official inauguration of the hockey rink with Laval dignitaries and the brother of a
former student and Canadian soldier, who recently sacrificed his life in Afghanistan.

          Free skating and practice for participants of various activities (11 a.m.)
          A Winter Classic Novice hockey game (noon)
          Sledge hockey outdoor game with the championship team Les Raoulants (1 p.m.)
          Laval Liberty Panthers All-Stars vs. Laval Police & Fire Fighters hockey game (2 p.m.)
          Performance by a Canadian Special Olympic figure skating champion (3:30 p.m.)
          Outdoor ice hockey games showcasing the schools’ hockey teams.(4 p.m.)
          Two ball hockey tournaments in the gymnasium (all day)

CBC coverage of Hockey Day In Canada and the Montreal Canadiens vs. Ottawa Senators game
(3 p.m.) will also be projected on the giant screen in the auditorium as the schools partner with
CBC Montreal to tell the story of this special day for the Laval community. The segment will be
featured on CBC national television after the Canadiens hockey game between 5:30 p.m. and 6

Laval Liberty and Laval Junior High Schools offer programs that incorporate sport or the arts with
academics. Each day hundreds of students share their time between classes and training, or
competing in football, soccer, and hockey, as well as performing and studying in theatre, music or
creative arts.

The high schools are asking community partners like you to join us for this unique celebration. It
is recommended that you arrive between 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. so that we can include you in
the ceremonial face-off. Please confirm your attendance as soon as possible with the school
