INT. STARTBUCK‟S CAFE – AFTERNOON

ANONYMOUS steps up to the counter and orders a drink. He‟s
in his early thirties, average height, has short dark brown
hair, and a strong jaw line.

                         CLERK
               Good afternoon, welcome to
Starbucks. What can I get for you?

                         ANONYMOUS
Hi. Let me get a Grande caramel
               frappuccino.

                         CLERK
               Coming right up.

As he waits, he pulls out his wallet and thumbs through
photos of a woman with blonde hair.

Within a minute, the Clerk is back with his order.

                         CLERK
               Here you are sir.

She hands over the frappuccino with a sleeve on it.

                            CLERK
               Enjoy.

                            ANONYMOUS
               Thank you.

He sits down at a table next to the front window of the
café.

He pulls a small of pills from his pocket, pops one in his
mouth, and washes it down with a sip of his frappuccino.

The masses of people zipping about on the other side of the
window entertain him from the moment.

EXT. STARBUCKS CAFÉ – AFTERNOON

Everyone is a blur, until a sudden short, redhead woman in
her late twenties catches his attention. She has on a
black, dress suit, black shoes, and carries a small leather
briefcase. She‟s cute, in a coy, reclusive sort of way.

The redhead peeks over her shoulder. Her eyes lock with
ANONYMOUS‟. She‟s quick to break the gaze and continues on
her way.

As small blue wallet falls from the front fold of her
briefcase as she moseys along.

               She‟s dropped her wallet.

ANONYMOUS springs from his chair, dashes out the café.

EXT. STARBUCKS CAFÉ – AFTERNOON

                           ANONYMOUS
               Hey miss!

He leans over, picks up wallet.

                         ANONYMOUS
               You dropped your wallet! Miss!
               Wait! You dropped your wallet!

The woman doesn‟t stop to turn around, not once for a split
second. Instead, she quickens up her pace. ANONYMOUS
proceeds to follow her down the street.

Bodies rush back and forth between them.

Cars & trucks alike pollute the air with incessant honking.

He almost losses track of her as an onslaught of people on
lunch break surround him from every which way.

EXT. EVELYN‟S HOUSE – AFTERNOON

He chases after the elusive redhead for about five blocks.

He finds himself in front of a small two-story house, on a
pleasant street with well-kept lawns, and young children in
play outside as their dogs watch contently from a distance.

He walks up to the fourth house from the corner, rings the
doorbell. No one responds. He waits a few more seconds,
knocks on the door. Again, no one responds.

He twists the knob. The door is unlocked so he continues
with caution inside.

INT. EVELYN‟S HOUSE – AFTERNOON

                          ANONYMOUS
               Hello. Is anyone home?

ANONYMOUS wanders aimlessly through the house.

As he paces through the living room to the dinning room, he
glances at pictures adorned along the walls.

A sudden THUD sound echoes out from the kitchen. He dashes
to the echo.

On the tile lies the redhead with a steak knife held loose
in one of her hands and blood spilled on her dress and
floor.

He rushes over to the woman, slides the knife across the
room, and cradles the young woman in his arms.

                           ANONYMOUS
Miss! Miss! Look at me. Look at
               me.

To get her attention, he gently slaps to her face.

At second glance down, he realizes she‟s slit both her
wrist severely.

                         ANONYMOUS
               Oh god.

He rips off one of his shirts, tears it in two. Firm, he
wraps the young woman‟s wrists with the torn fabric then
whips out his mobile phone and dials 911.

As the phone rings, the young woman mutters to ANONYMOUS.

                         EVELYN
                    (In a soft tone)
What are you doing? Leave me
               alone. Let me be.

                         ANONYMOUS
               I‟m getting you some help.

                        EVELYN
No. You can‟t. I‟m tired, so, so
               tired.

The ringing stops and an operator answers the call.

                         911 OPERATOR
               Hello. This is 911.

INT. THOREK HOSPITAL – EVENING

EVELYN is sound asleep. In a chair adjacent from her
ANONYMOUS reads a magazine. EVELYN‟S eyes flutter, her
fingers twitch as she awakens.

                         ANONYMOUS

She turns away from ANONYMOUS exhales a deep sigh.

He stands up, places his hand on her shoulder.

                        ANONYMOUS
               I didn‟t mean it like…I‟m sorry.

Tell me, why you're anxious to

She ignores him once more.

ANONYMOUS remains persistent. He scoots his chair closer to

                         ANONYMOUS
               EVELYN, talk to me.

He waits for a response, shakes her a once more. After the
third nudge, EVELYN‟S long red hair falls aside, revealing
burn scars on the back of her neck.

Her scars extend further down her back.

At first sight ANONYMOUS gasps.

A few seconds pass, he manages to put his shook at bay.

                         EVELYN
My mother, my father and my

                         EVELYN
You have scene scars like this.

She sits up with her back turned toward ANONYMOUS still,
slides down her gown and exposes to him burn scars
stretching from her neck and shoulders, down past her
waist.

                         EVELYN
Half of my body is covered by

                         EVELYN
I was ten years old. A beam fell
down and trapped me underneath in
a blazing inferno. My dad was
able to push it off me, but in
doing so, he was engulfed by
               flames as the second floor
               collapsed around him.

She covers herself up, turns to ANONYMOUOS. Buried tears
flood to the surface. She tries to fight them back – it‟s
not use.

Slow at first, they stream down her cheeks.

EXT. STREET – NIGHT

ANONYMOUS reaches for a car door, stops, turns around. He
opens bolts down the street full speed, hops over a car,
swings 360 degrees around a light pole hooting at the top
of his lunges.

Passers by step aside or cross to the other side entirely.

He stops yanks out his wallet and thumbs through photos of
a blond woman.

His hands tremble as he closes he puts his wallet away,
pulls a small bottle from his pocket. He pops a couple of
pills, pulls out his phone and dials a number.

A woman answers on the other end.

He closes his mobile, whistles back to his car.

INT. THOREK HOSPITAL – NIGHT

EVELYN lies in bed gazing at the ceiling.

She hops up, scurries to her door, sticks her head out,
looks left then right. No one‟s in sight. She tiptoes
into the hall and comes across a storage closet.

She turns the knob, its locked.

Footsteps are heard from down the hall. It‟s a nurse.

EVELYN dashes back to her room, slides under her cover once
more.

               I‟m being honest. I wasn‟t the

               Yeah I did.

She presses her index finger against ANONYMOUS‟ head,
playfully pushes it.

                         EVELYN
That‟s the only reason I held on

You really didn‟t have to do this

She smacks his hand from her face, and breaks eye contact.

                         EVELYN

She pushes him aside and continuous along the pier. Her

                            EVELYN
               Not a bit.

                         ANONYMOUS
We‟ve been dancing for two hours
straight. Wanna call it a night?

                         EVELYN
               Please. I‟m exhausted. I just
want to go to bed right now.

                         ANONYMOUS
Ok, but how about we stop at DQ I
been itching for some ice cream al
               night.

The two of them dance their way out of the club.

Soon after, ANONYMOUS buys a couple of ice cream cones from
Dairy Queen not far from EVELYN‟S house.

Within a minute, the two of them arrive in front of
EVELYN‟S house.

EXT. EVEYLN‟S HOUSE – NIGHT

They step out of the car licking their cones as they head
to the front door.

                         EVELYN
Thank you for tonight. It was…ok.

                         ANONYMOUS
You‟re welcome. This is what new
               friendships are all about.

She laughs then turns the unlocks the door.

                         EVELYN
I…I can handle myself from here.

                         ANONYMOUS
Nice try. The NURSE told me to
keep an eye on you and that‟s what
               I‟m going to do.

                         EVELYN
               Really that won‟t be necessary.

                    (Stern tone)
               EVELYN.

Unnerved, ANONYMOUS stares into EVELYN‟S eyes the same as a
father would.

                            EVELYN
               Alright.

She pushes the door open.

                         EVELYN
               You‟re lucky you‟re cute.

INT. EVELYN‟S HOUSE – NIGHT

In the living room, ANONYMOUS lies on the sofa. ESPN Sports
Center plays on the television.

EVELYN trudges downstairs with a blanket underneath one arm
and a pillow under the other. She walks over and sets them
on his stomach.

                            ANONYMOUS
               Thank you.

               funny business out of you.

She starts up the steps.

                         ANONYMOUS
               Wait, I‟ll tuck you in.

                         EVELYN
               I‟m not a lil kid. I don‟t need to
               be tucked in.

                         ANONYMOUS
I know, but I want to.

UPSTAIRS

ANONYMOUS follows EVELYN upstairs to her room. Her room is
decorated with crimson roses from the curtains to the
bedspread.

                         ANONYMOUS
               Nice decorations.

EVELYN slides underneath the comforter and sheets.

                         EVELYN
My dad called me his little rose.

ANONYMOUS fluffs her pillow and tucks her in.

                         EVELYN
                    (Sigh)
You got what you wanted. I‟m all
               tucked in, happy now?

                         ANONYMOUS
               Yes, very. I‟ll be right
               downstairs if you need me.

As EVELYN shuts her eyes ANONYMOUS kisses her forehead. He
then leaves the room shutting the door behind him. He
pretends like he is walking downstairs.

Anonymous 27
After about ten fake steps he tiptoes back to EVELYN‟S
door, plops down right next to it, curls up and rests his
head on his knees.

A hour later, the shattering of a lamp awakens ANONYMOUS.
He darts into the room.

EVELYN sits at the edge of her window seal, both her legs
dangling out of it.

Inching closer, ANONYMOUS notices a noose around her neck
connected to the bedpost, she pushes off the window seal.

He shoots to the window at full speed as EVELYN falls
toward the ground. He catches her by her right hand before
the rope could snap her neck.

                          ANONYMOUS
               EVELYN! What are you doing!

                         EVELYN
               Damn it! Let me go!

With the full weight of her body pulling down on her, the
stitches on her arm begin to bleed again.

                         EVELYN
               You‟re hurting me! Let go!

With her free hand, she repeatedly slaps ANONYMOUS‟S face.
He grabs her flailing arm as it speeds toward him.

He pulls her in, cautiously trying not to hurt her anymore
than she‟s hurt herself.

The two of them hit the bedroom floor with a heavy thud.

                         EVELYN
Why the hell are you so damn
               persistent?

EVELYN swings around and slaps ANONYMOUS once more. This
time blood from her stitches smears on his face.

                         ANONYMOUS
               I was right.

                         EVELYN
               Right about what?

                         ANONYMOUS
               You‟re desperate to die. I can‟t
leave you by yourself, not now.

He snatches a pillow off EVELYN‟S bed, tosses it on the
floor, and collapses on it.

                         ANONYMOUS
               I‟m sleeping in here tonight.

                         EVELYN
               I loathe you!

INT. EVELYN‟S ROOM – MORNING

The sunrays awaken EVELYN. ANONYMOUS enters the room with
a wooden serving tray filled with French toast, eggs, hash
browns, and orange juice on a nightstand next to EVELYN.

ANONYMOUS softly runs his left hand across EVELYN‟S head,
gently brushing aside the hair on her forehead.

                          ANONYMOUS
Good mourning. I made you some
               breakfast.

EVELYN‟S sight is blurred as she stares at the tray half
daze. Her vision clears after a few winks.

                         EVELYN
               French toast? I haven‟t had
homemade French toast since my dad
last made some for me and my
               sister years ago.

EVELYN sits up straight. ANONYMOUS lays the tray across

her lap. She picks up her utensils then cuts her toast.

                           EVELYN
My dad‟s French toast never looked
this good though. He always added
                 too much cinnamon.
                      (Giggles then smiles)
Listen, I‟m sorry about… you know,
                 last night.

                           ANONYMOUS
Don‟t worry about it. I can
                 understand. You‟re dealing with
                 some tough issues.

                           EVELYN
And to think…I was going to sneak
out of here while you slept.

                           ANONYMOUS
                 Just so you know,
                      (Leans into EVELYN)
I saw you when were gonna sneak
out. I went downstairs to make
                 breakfast fell back asleep.
                      (Pauses)
Enough about last night. Eat up.

EVELYN brings a piece of toast to her mouth, chews it slow.
As it makes its way down do her stomach, her eyes dilate.

                           EVELYN
                 This is really good.

                          ANONYMOUS
I take it your mom did most the
                 cooking.

EVELYN can‟t talk. Her cheeks are packed full of food.
She pauses between chewing to take a sip of orange juice.
EVELYN wipes her lips, and swallows the remaining food in
her mouth.

Anonymous 30
                         EVELYN
Actually, my dad cooked most of
the time. He was less likely to
               burn the kitchen down.

                         ANONYMOUS
Your parents were that bad huh?

EVELYN stuffs a couple more bites into her mouth.

                         EVELYN
My mom wasn‟t too bad, just a
               little forgetful. She started
four grease fires. Each time she
was either caught up on the phone
               or jeopardy.

ANONYMOUS laughs while EVELYN takes another sip of orange
juice.

                        EVELYN
My dad was a decent cook, but he
               always had trouble making French
               Toast.

                          ANONYMOUS
That‟s odd. Most dads can‟t cook.
They usually know how to make one
               signature dish like lasagna or
chili. My dad was that kind of
               dad. He made amazing spinach
               lasagna. Sweet, cheesy, it melted
               in your mouth.

EVELYN‟S finished almost all her food. ANONYMOUS looks at
Evelyn with a smug smirk on his face when he sees her
cheeks filled with food.

                         ANONYMOUS
               Wow, you weren‟t kidding around.
You must really like my cooking.

EVELYN tries to speak but when she opens her mouth eggs and

and continues to chew her food. She then gulps down the
remaining juice in the glass.

                         ANONYMOUS
Didn‟t anyone tell you never talk
               with your mouth full?

                         EVELYN
I was trying to tell you get up.
I‟m going to be late for work.

EXT. COMMERCIAL BUILDING – DAY

ANONYMOUS pulls up beside the commercial building EVELYN‟S
company is located in.

                         ANONYMOUS
Here we are. Tell me which floor

INT. EVELYN‟S COMMERCIAL BUILDING, 21st FLOOR – DAY

EVELYN rushes with ANONYMOUS to her cubicle. A moment
later, she finds herself eye to eye with her boss.

He‟s short, has black hair with fine gray streaks, and a
receding hairline. His disdainful frown tells EVELYN he‟s
in an ill mood.

                         EVELYN
               Mr. Perkasie I can explain.

                         MR. PERKASIE
                    (In an angered tone)
Explain? You were supposed to be
here with the demo 20 minutes ago
for our meeting with the Nabisco‟s
               ad representatives. Thanks to you,
we lost a million dollar contract.

                         EVELYN
               I‟m sorry Mr. Perkasie.

He gently brushes his hand against Evelyn‟s face.

                         MR. PERKASIE
What‟s the matter with you Evelyn?
               You haven‟t been yourself lately.

                         EVELYN
I know. I‟ve just been dealing
               through some issues.

                          MR. PERKASIE
What ever it is you‟re going
through make sure you get your
shit together. I don‟t want to
               miss out on another contract
               because of you.

                          EVELYN
               Yes sir.

EVELYN hangs her head low with her chin down to her chest
while MR. PERKASIE struts away. Appalled by MR. PERKASIE
insolent, indecent remarks, ANONYMOUS catches up to MR.
PERKASIE and pulls him aside.

                         ANONYMOUS
Hey, I don‟t know if you know
this, but this girl has some
               serious mental issues. She‟s
               going through an emotional
breakdown right now. Ease up a bit
on her, cut her some slack.

                         MR. PERKASIE
               I‟m completely aware of EVELYN‟S
               condition. However, that does not
               exclude her from my criticism.

Anonymous 33
                       ANONYMOUS
Maybe this is asking too much, but
I‟d really appreciate it if you
allowed her the day off. Give her
some time to sort out her
             thoughts.

                       MR. PERKASIE
             Why should I?

                       ANONYMOUS
Just the other day she slit both
of her wrists. She was lying to
two pools of blood when I found
her. Then last night I caught her
trying to hang herself from her
             bedroom window. Now, I didn‟t
force her to come in for work
today. I know if I were in her
             predicament I wouldn‟t have come
             in. She‟s committed to this
company and has a lot of respect
for you. With what she‟s been
             through don‟t you think that
should be commended with a day
             off?

                       MR. PERKASIE
I know she respects me, there‟s no
reason not to. And the fact that
she almost killed herself twice is
             awfully dreadful. Now look at
this through my eyes. EVELYN is
             still alive, she looks healthy,
and she just lost me a million
dollar contract. At least if she
had died, I might have had an
extension on that demo for those
             Nabisco ad reps.

Mr. Perkasie is about to walk away but he remembers one
more thing he wants to say to Anonymous.

O by the way, I‟m not sympathetic

               another punk who‟s screwing
               EVELYN.

ANONYMOUS‟ face turns red and his eyes narrow to little
slits. He glares at MR. PERKASIE like. Without
hesitation, he throws a thunderous blot to MR. PERKASIE‟S
temple.

MR. PERKASIE crashes on to a cubical three feet away.

Taken by surprise, Evelyn rushes to the aid of MR.

He‟s my uncle. He took me in,

EVELYN begins to remember long nights at the office,
frivolous tasks, and strenuous hours that would give the

               I quit.

               You can‟t quit.

                         EVELYN

EVELYN walks toward the elevator arm in arm with ANONYMOUS.

ANONYMOUS sighs as EVELYN slouches further in her seat and
stares down. Her face is emotionless.

                          ANONYMOUS
              What now?

EVELYN lifts her head and gazes out the window.
Skyscrapers and other buildings fly past her eyes in such a

The Sears Tower, the largest building in Chicago‟s skyline
fills EVELYN with awe. Her jaw literally drops as she
takes in the site.

               an Elevator ride?

                         EVELYN
Once, when I was a little, my
               grandparents took my younger
sister and me to the Sears Tower.
This ride to the top reminds me of
the butterflies I got in my
stomach as we road the elevator to
               the top that day.

On a clear day like this, a person
could see at least fifty miles

                         ANONYMOUS
               True. But, there‟s nothing like
seeing Chicago from above at nigh.

The elevator stops on the 100th floor, the doors open with a
DING. A mother holding her son‟s hand is the first off the
elevator.

ANONYMOUS and EVELYN are the last to step off the elevator
behind an elderly couple from New York that looks like they

Anonymous 40
are in late 60‟s.

100th FLOOR

EVELYN walks toward the nearest window. From above
everyone one on the streets below, look like ants. In the
distance, she spots a Bowing 757 taking off from O‟Hare
Airport. Everything from the parks to the surrounding
building glistens like diamonds in the sun.

The room itself has an entertainment setting meant for
medium sized gatherings.

Some items in the room are a waxed hardwood floor, blue
leather, a large glass coffee table with pearl legs, and a
large oak bar and bartender.

                         EVELYN
Everything is so beautiful from up
               here.

The OLD MAN that got off the elevator just before ANONYMOUS
and EVELYN approaches them from behind. He gazes out the
window just as Evelyn did then he turns to her and grunts.

                          OLD MAN
This is a nice view but it‟s
nothing like the Big Apple. You
can see The Garden and Lady
Liberty from the top of the
Empire. If you look hard enough,
you can see straight across to
               Bean town.
                    (Inhales deeply)
Oh…but you got a nice view here
too. There‟s a little too much
green along the horizon for me. I
prefer the cold look of steel and
               concrete.

The OLD MAN‟S wife calls out to him from across the room.

                    Frank!

The short, plump Old Woman makes her way across the room
over to her husband. She grabs hold of him by his left
hand and leads him to the other side of the room.

                         OLD WOMAN
               Leave those kids alone! They
didn‟t come here to hear you gloat
               about New York.

                         OLD MAN
What? I was just holding a
               friendly conversation.

                        OLD WOMAN
Yeah, yeah, c‟mon, See the pier,

Navy Pier, quick, let‟s see it.

EVELYN grabs ANONYMOUS‟ by the arm and drags him to the
eastside of the room. She takes two steps but Anonymous
doesn‟t budge at all.

                         ANONYMOUS
What‟s the rush? We got the whole

As a kid, I looked out into the

INT. ANONYMOUS‟ RESTAURANT – EVENING

ANONYMOUS greets the host with a firm handshake. ANONYMOUS
whispers into the host‟s ear and he seats them by the
window.

TABLE

Spread across the top of the table is a dark red
tablecloth. Set atop of it are two pearl white candles
burning in tulip glass holders, 2 sets silverware rolled in

Ok I want the Oysters Rockefeller,
               Creole hot sausages, and the
               Crabmeat Ravigote.

                         VICKY
                    (Scribbles on her notepad)
               Is that it?

                         EVELYN
               Yes.

                        VICKY
I‟ll have that out in a few
               minutes.

VICKY walks away, takes orders from a couple more tables
then heads back to the kitchen.

KITCHEN

ANONYMOUS pulls a bottle from his pocket, pops a pill in
his mouth.

As he prepares Evelyn‟s appetizers, his phone rings.
Another chef takes over preparations.

BATHROOM

ANONYMOUS disappears into the quietness of the bathroom to
answer his phone.

A woman‟s voice greets him on the other end.

                         ANONYMOUS
               Hey, honey.

Sweetie, I just got done taking a
hot bath. The whole time I was in
the tub I couldn‟t stop thinking
               about you.

TABLE BY THE WINDOW

ANONYMOUS returns fifteen minutes later with a stand and a
tray of appetizers. He sets down the stand then places tray
on top.

EVELYN‟S mouth salivates as her eyes take sight of the
three appetizers.

                         EVELYN
               This looks amazing.

ANONYMOUS sets the dishes on the table then he takes a
seat.

                         ANONYMOUS
               Did you expect anything less?

                         EVELYN
I ordered this…it almost looks too
               good to eat.

With her fork, she grabs a Creole sausage, cuts off a piece
of it. She stares at the piece of meat on the end of her
fork for a while.

                          ANONYMOUS
What are you waiting for? I
               promise it‟s delicious.

EVELYN brings the meat to her lips, slides it off the tip
of her fork. Right away, a burst of flavor and spices send
an orgasmic shiver from her mouth, to her toes, and back up
again.

EVELYN leans forward. ANONYMOUS tilts his wrist, EVELYN
flicks her tongue, the oyster meat falls into her mouth.
Again, the same sensation over comes her.

                         ANONYMOUS
Wait till you try the main course.

EVELYN forces herself to smile as she catches her breath.

An hour later, four large empty dishes and an empty
breadbasket decorate the table.

EVELYN and ANONYMOUS are slouched back in their seats with
their hands on their stomach.

                         EVELYN
               O, my stomach.

                         ANONYMOUS

                         EVELYN

Everything was so good. That was

FRONT ENTRANCE

While EVELYN and ANONYMOUS relax after their dinner,
Madison steps foot into the restaurant. Vicky directs her
to the table EVELYN and ANONYMOUS are seated at.

TABLE BY THE WINDOW

As EVELYN and ANONYMOUS share a laugh, Madison approaches
from the left. She rushes up behind ANONYMOUS, gently
covers his eyes.

                              MADISON
                 Guess Who?

ANONYMOUS inhales the floral fragrance of Madison‟s
perfume.

                              ANONYMOUOS

                            MADISON
                 Correct. You win a kiss.

MADISON uncovers ANONYMOUS‟ eyes, leans in, plants a soft
kiss on his lips. EVELYN watches saddened.

                           ANONYMOUS

day. I couldn‟t bear being away

MADISON wraps her arms around ANONYMOUS, kisses him once
more long and slow. When their lips unlock MADISON shifts

her attention to EVELYN.

                         MADISON
You must be the friend ANONYMOUS

MADISON extends her hand as friendly gesture. EVELYN
shakes it.

                         MADISON
               I‟m MADISON, ANONYMOUS‟ fiancée.

EVELYN‟S becomes a stone, cold and silent. The word fiancée
vibrates in her head like a tuning fork. For a brief
moment she stares at MADISON stunned, numb, speechless.

                         EVELYN
               I‟m EVELYN.

                         ANONYMOUS

               You don‟t have to explain. I‟m a
               big girl, I understand.

                         MADISON
               You didn‟t know?

She grabs her purse and rises from her chair.

                         EVELYN
If you two don‟t mind I‟ll be
               catching a cab home.
                    (Pushes her chair in)
               Thank you ANONYMOUS. Dinner was
               great.

EVELYN rushes out the restaurant, bumps into people and
chairs along her way out the door.

EXT. ANONYMOUS‟ RESTAURANT – EVENING

Outside, he sees EVELYN step into a cab. As soon as she
shuts the cab door, he darts head first to the front of the
cab.

The cabbie slams on the breaks before hits ANONYMOUS.
ANONYMOUS pounds the hood of the cab.

                         ANONYMOUS

it.

                         ANONYMOUS
               EVELYN, open up!

EVELYN rolls the window down halfway.

ANONYMOUS and EVELYN become lost in each other‟s gaze.

BEEP!

ANONYMOUS pats the hood of the car and the CABBIE speeds
off into the night.

INT. CAB – NIGHT

The night is black, moonless. The air is sticky and humid.
EVELYN looks out her window, wipes tears from cheeks.

                         CABBIE
               Hey Miss, you ok?

                         EVELYN
               I will be, after tonight.

EXT. EVELYN‟S HOUSE – NIGHT

The cab has pulls. EVELYN steps out, closes the door behind
herself.

The crackle of thunder echoes in the air.

The CABBIE drives off as EVELYN walks up to the front
porch. Flashes of lightening cut through the clouded, dark
sky.

She pushes the front door open and thick sheets of rain
begin to fall. Fat, bubbles of water blanket everything
around her house.

INT. EVELYN‟S HOUSE – NIGHT

She steps foot into her home, flicks on a couple of lights,
then passes on into the living room.

                         EVELYN
Damn it! EVELYN, you did it
again. You really know how to
               pick a man!

She flops down in a recliner. She doubles over with her
hands on her eyes to fight back her tears.

                         EVELYN
Forget about him. Forget all of
               them!

Anonymous 55
She jumps to her feet, races upstairs to the bathroom.

BATHROOM

She raids through the medicine cabinet, grabs a bottle of
Zantacs and bottle of Nyquil. Then she rushes back
downstairs to the kitchen.

KITCHEN

She yanks open the refrigerator, grabs a bottle of water
then storms out the backdoor to the garage.

EXT. EVELYN‟S GARAGE – NIGHT

The sky is darker, rain pelts down on her in hard. Constant
flashes of lightening illuminate the night every view
seconds, giving Evelyn enough light find her garage key.

INT. EVELYN‟S GARAGE – NIGHT

Inside, her 2004 Dodge Intrepid sits on four flat tires.
It‟s blood red and the driver side door is caved in from a
previous accident.

She slams the garage door behind herself and hops into the
car. She cuts on the overhead lights, starts the ignition.
Next, she pulls the bottle of sleeping pills from her
pocket, pops seven pills in her mouth five, washes them
down with a few gulps of Nyquil.

Last, she chugs down half her bottle of water. Drowsiness
is the first symptom to overcome her.

EVELYN uses the last bit of strength she has to roll down
the car windows. Carbon monoxide engulfs the Intrepid‟s
interior same as it did the garage. She slips into
unconsciousness.

Thunder claps in the sky.

ANONYMOUS heads for his car.

               Where are you going?

                         ANONYMOUS
                    (Stops, turns to MADISON)
I got to check on EVELYN.

Streaks of lightening illuminate the sky.

                            MADISON
               She…

                         ANONYMOUS
She might try to hurt herself.

Fat, bubbly, raindrops begin to fall in thick sheets.

               Can‟t you wait till morning?

                         ANONYMOUS
Her problem is she needs an honest
friend by her side. She‟s been in
and out of the E.R for seven year.

He stops, leans against a wall hands first.

                         ANONYMOUS
               There‟s something else she keeps
               locked inside.

                         MADISON
DENISE found out what was eating
you two years ago. She can do the
               same for EVELYN.

INT. DENISE RICHARDSON‟S OFFICE – NIGHT

EVELYN sits and stares at DENISE as she twiddles her
thumbs.

                         DENISE
               We start whenever you‟re ready.

                             EVELYN

She straightens up in attentive fashion, her chin up, hands
on her lap.

                          EVELYN
So…what do you want to know?
Should I start at my childhood?
You want to know if I‟ve ever felt
               neglected?

EVELYN leans forward. Her hands clinch to the sides of her

Anonymous 71
chair.

                         EVELYN
I bet you want to know if I‟ve
               thought about hurting myself, and
               how many times I attempted
               suicide?

DENISE rises from her seat and walks over to another
adjacent to long sofa angled up at the head portion.

                         DENISE
Are you comfortable? Lie down and
               relax over here.

EVELYN joins Denise, lies on the sofa. She‟s silent for a
moment and then…

                         EVELYN
Ten, that‟s how many times I tried
               to take my life.

                         DENISE
That‟s a start. How do you feel?

                         EVELYN
               Anxious, annoyed.

DENISE scribbles something on her file.

                         DENISE
Why do you think Madison rushed to
get you here tonight instead of
               waiting for tomorrow.

                         EVELYN
               Maybe my sudden mood swing
               frightened her.

                        DENISE
How do you get along well with
               MADISON?

                        EVELYN
I haven‟t known her long, but she
              can be a lil smothering.

She lets out an uncomfortable snicker. DENISE jots down
something else in her file.

                        EVELYN
              I wish I would‟ve known she was
              ANONYMOUS‟ fiancée earlier.

                        DENISE
              Why is that?

                        EVELYN
              Getting too attached… a mistake I
always make. Wish I‟d never met
him. Then I wouldn‟t have met
MADISON or be sitting here with
              you. I‟d be dead.

                        DENISE
What‟s happened is past. We can‟t
              change that.

                        EVELYN
You don‟t understand. This is the
              seventh time I‟ve fallen for
              someone I can‟t have.

                        DENISE
We can‟t change the feelings we
              have for someone either?

                        EVELYN
I‟ve been in love with women too…
Both of whom were married. One of
              „em had kids.
                   (Sighs)
Women are just as deceitful as

How did you cope with that?

                        EVELYN
Funny thing is they were all drawn
to me for the same reason. In
              their eyes, I was a virgin; a
              meek, tender, virgin innocent and
              fragile.

                        DENISE
              You‟re evading my question.

EVELYN glances over at DENISE, straightens up and clasps
her hands together on her chest.

                        EVELYN
              I tried everything thinkable. I
cut myself to drain my clouted
mind of their memories. I scorched
my flesh with lighters, numbing my
              nerves of ever knowing their
              touch.

                        DENISE
Did you hope to hurt them by
              hurting yourself?

EVELYN ignores DENISE‟S remark. She continues with her
thoughts.

                        EVELYN
I tried hanging myself twice, and
              drowning myself twice. When that
didn‟t work I tried over dosing on
              sleeping pills, and sleeping
through a fire I set for myself.

                         DENISE
              My God. You‟re a miracle.

                        EVELYN
              No I‟m not. I‟m a poor planner.
Ropes snapped; my uncle pulled me

from the lake, and ANONYMOUS has
impeccable timing. If was a better
planner, I wouldn‟t be here today.

                         DENISE
It‟s a good thing MADISON rushed
you here. From what you‟ve told
               me, your relationships are the
               cause of your problems.

                         EVELYN
I could have told you that.

An awkward silence fills the room. DENISE closes her
folder, continues.

                         DENISE
               Do you have a hobby?

                           EVELYN
               What for?

                         DENISE
Pick up one. You need to occupy
yourself with things to do so your
               mind won‟t wander off with
               thoughts of hurting yourself.

DENISE crosses her legs and leans forward.

                         DENISE
               You‟re close friends with

I can think of who still truly
               cares for me.

She glances over at EVELYN. A delighted grin starts to form

DENISE.

               EVELYN will be safer there.

months, it depends on how fast
Evelyn gets better. You have to
watch over her when she returns.

EXT. KREAMER MENTAL HOSPITAL – NIGHT

The sky is overcast. Street lights around the hospital give
it an eerie look. A man‟s screams break the calm of the
night.

INT. KREAMER MENATAL HOSPITAL – NIGHT

ANONYMOUS and EVELYN hug each other goodbye. MADISON

her room.

                         DOCTOR
We‟ll take good care of her.

EVELYN looks back over her shoulder.

ANONYMOUS waves bye to her.

out the hospital.

HALLWAY

Inside his room, a man screams as two orderlies hold him
down while a nurse administers a shot to him. After the
injection is complete, he ceases to struggle, he is
relaxed.

EVELYN‟S CELL

The nurses and EVELYN come to a stop three rooms down &
across from the screaming man. She steps into her room, the
nurses hand her a white blouse and blue slacks. She
changes, hands her street clothes to the nurses, they walk
out.

SCREAMING MAN‟S CELL

EVELYN approaches her door, spies out across the hall. The
same screaming man stares back at her, his hair is bushy &
long, mouth & brow frowned.

ANONYMOUS and MADISON are at a table. A bowl of ice cream

                ANNY you ok babe?

He tries to put the spoon to his mouth. His hand trembles

the spoon onto the table. ANONYMOUS stabs the spoon into
the ice cream.

SCREAMING MAN‟S CELL

His face is pressed against his glass as he stares at
EVELYN. She returns eye contact as he waves at her.

Orderlies enter the hallway, dropping off medicine to each

EVELYN‟S door opens, in walks the orderlies with her pills.

                         ORDERLY

                            EVELYN
                  Where‟s MADISON.

                            ANONYMOUS
                  She‟s busy.

The door opens, the Nurse walks in again.

                            NURSE
Sorry MR. NAVARRO, it‟s time for
                  the patients‟ recreational

I‟ll be back everyday, till you

He kisses EVELYN‟S forehead, rises, and exits.

RECREATION ROOM

At a table, EVELYN crochets a black & blue scarf next to
RICHARD.

                            RICHARD
You shouldn‟t mope around so much.

                             EVELYN
                  I‟m not.

                            RICHARD
                  Well you‟re beating yourself up

You‟re one to talk. Remember you
               have nightmares, I don‟t.

                          RICHARD
               Nightmares and blaming yourself
               for something you couldn‟t have
               prevented are completely
               different.

                           EVELYN
               It‟s not that. It‟s something
               else.

                          RICHARD
               ANONYMOUS? You‟re not sure what
               to think of him.

EVELYN pauses from her crocheting, turns to RICHARD.

                            EVELYN
               How‟d you…

                         RICHARD
               Everything happens for a reason.
You met him for a reason. Be
happy, someone who cares for you,
that‟s more than I can say for
               myself.

He puts down his needles and picks up a purple, lopsided
crocheted hat, with an uneven beak and hole on the right
side.

                         RICHARD
               Purple is definitely my color,
               don‟t you think?

He poses with his hand on his
               chin.

                         EVELYN
               It…looks great.

FOUR DAYS LATER

INT. KREAMER MENTAL HOSPITAL – NIGHT

DOCTOR‟S OFFICE

She‟s dressed in her own clothes. DENISE and another doctor
sit across from her.

                            DENISE
EVELYN, roll up your sleeves and
                  show me your arms.

She shows the front and back of both arms as DENISE asked.

The second doctor whispers something into DENISE‟S ear.

                            DENISE
DR. HEINRICH tells me you made
                  great progress. You take your
                  medication and you‟ve opened up
                  socially.

KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK

                             DR. HEINRICH
                  Come in.

ANONYMOUS & MADISON enter the office. They stand next to
EVELYN

                            ANONYMOUS
                  You wanted to see us.

                            DR. HEINRICH
After talking to my colleague we
                  agree EVELYN should be released
                  into your care.

                           MADISON
Our care, are you sure she‟s
                  ready?

                        DR. HEINRICH
               She‟s been cooperative; she
               doesn‟t cause any complaints
               either.

                         DENISE
                    (To ANONYMOUS)
               Because of your relationship with
her and our history, I know she‟ll
               be in good hands.

                         ANONYMOUS
               You‟re right about that.

He places his hand on her
               shoulder, rubs her softly.

                            MADISON
                       (Mutters)
               Shit.

She forces her mouth to smile toward the doctors.

INT. ANONYMOUS‟ CAR – NIGHT

Inside, everyone is silent. MADISON gazes out at the city
lights. EVELYN stares at her content.

ANONYMOUS turns on the radio when he catches sight of
EVELYN‟S eyes through his rear view mirror. “All Around
Me” by Flyleaf plays on the radio.

EVELYN takes her eyes off MADISON, leans toward the
speaker.

                          EVELYN
Turn that up. I can‟t hear it
               back here.

The song comes to an end, ANONYMOUS pulls into the parking
lot next to a burger shack.

               You girls hungry?

EXT. BURGER SHACK – NIGHT

Two customers wait to receive their order.

EXT. PARK – NIGHT

Across the street is an enormous park with basketball
courts, tennis courts, a large field for softball &
football, a three story district building and a small lake
with paddle boats.

EXT. BURGER SHACK

ANONYMOUS steps up to the service window.

                         ANONYMOUS
Hi. I want two Italian sausages,
one Italian beef, and a double
               cheeseburger.

                         CHEF
               That‟ll be $11.50.

While waiting for the order behind Anonymous and Madison,
EVELYN gazes at the park lake as she waits behind ANONYMOUS
and MADISON.

She starts to step toward it entranced. Traffic nears
barrels toward her. A semi-truck blows its trumpet like
horn. ANONYMOUS & MADISON turn around. EVELYN is walking
through the middle of the four-lane street.

                            ANONYMOUS
               EVELYN?

STREET

Without hesitation, EVELYN darts across the street. One by
one cars and trucks come to a tire screeching, holt as she

Anonymous 87
runs past them.

ANONYMOUS sprints after her.

BURGER SHACK

The CHEF returns with ANONYMOUS‟ order in a large paper
bag. MADISON hands him a twenty.

                            MADISON
                  Keep the change.

She snatches the bag of greasy food, rushes after
ANONYMOUS.

STREET

EVELYN steps foot onto park soil, continues toward the
lake.

A black Porsche almost hits ANONYMOUS.

Every car stops, waits patiently as Madison jogs across
behind ANONYMOUS. The man in the black Porsche hops out and
whistles at her as she passes by.

                            ANONYMOUS
                  EVELYN! Stop!

EXT. PARK – NIGHT

LAKE

She hurdles over a park bench. Within five seconds she‟s in
the shallow end of the lake. She inhales a deep breath then
dives further into the dark, murky waters.

ANONYMOUSE stands at the lakes edge with MADISON. He
surveys the area.

                               ANONYMOUS

He sheds his jacket, tosses it aside, and plunges head
first into the water. He pops up and down three times.
All three times he breaks for a gulp of air he screams
EVELYN.

A full minute has passed…still no sign of EVELYN.

                            ANONYMOUS
               EVELYN, stop playing around.
               EVELYN!

                         MADISON
She‟s been down there awhile now.
If she‟s still alive, she might
not be in the water anymore.
                    (Pauses)
Either that or she floated across
               to the other side.

                          ANONYMOUS
Yeah, maybe she‟s on the other
               side.

He starts to swim across the lake but something yanks down
on his leg. He stops, looks around. MADISON is the only
one in sight. He continues to the other side of the lake
once more.

Again, something grabs onto his legs. This time it pulls
him backward then swims away. He splashes water around in
an attempt to ward away whatever‟s taunting him.

                         MADISON
               Baby, what‟s wrong?

                         ANONYMOUS
               I think something is…

He disappears into the murky little lake.

                            MADISON
               ANNY! Baby!

Anonymous 89
When she receives no response, she drops the bag of food to
the ground, kicks off her heels, sheds her thin, red,
leather jacket, and jumps into the water.

                         MADISON
               I‟m coming baby!

As she nears the middle of the lake, she too is pulled down
into the murky waters.

The water‟s surface is motionless for a moment. A frenzy of
bubbles explodes to the surface after ten seconds.

Three bodies, two with hair covering their face, emerge
above the water‟s surface.

                         MADISON
                    (Gasps)
Don‟t you ever do that again!

EVELYN and ANONYMOUS burst into laughter. ANONYMOUS‟
laughter comes to a slow end.

                         ANONYMOUS
               Yeah, EVELYN seriously you me
scared to death. Why‟d you take
               off like that?

She backstrokes circles around ANONYMOUS & MADISON

                         EVELYN
Can‟t a girl go for a moonlit swim
without you getting all worked up?

                         MADISON
A swim? That‟s what the pool
               inside that building is for.

She points to brown three story building

                           MADISON

lake then playfully dunks her in the water. They splash
around for a brief moment.

Before long, EVELYN wades over to them.

other hand.

The fire that killed my family I…I

ANONYMOUS‟ eyes dilate. He swims back a step from EVELYN.

                  How could you?

I didn‟t think anyone was going to

                            EVELYN
                  I‟ve been suffering from bi-polar
disorder since I was ten. That day
                  I hit a new low.

She swims toward the grass, gets out the water, sits on a
bench. ANONYMOUS joins her.

After school, I came up with the
idea. I thought my family was
gone. I thought I‟d be able to die
                  in peace without hurting anyone.

ANONYMOUS
But you didn‟t.

My dad got off work early. He

Before I knew it the ceiling caved

She wipes her tears, holds on to ANONYMOUS.

ANONYMOUS lifts her chin up.

                         ANONYMOUS
You survived that fire for a

What‟s taking you two so long?

               Sorry about that MADISON. We‟re
               coming out right now.

INT. ANONYMOUS‟ APARTMENT – NIGHT

LIVING ROOM

MADISON and EVELYN sit on a sofa drinking margaritas.
MADISON has on bathrobe and her hair is still wet from a
shower.

EVELYN‟S sits with her feet tucked underneath herself. She
has on one of MADISON‟S nightgowns.

A running shower is heard in the background.

                         EVELYN
When are you and ANONYMOUS tying
               the knot?

MADISON‟S face is emotionless as she turns to EVELYN. She
warms up to a smile as she begins to speak.

                         MADISON
We talked about late April or
early June when the flowers are in
               full bloom.

                         EVELYN
               You‟re a lucky woman.
               ANONYMOUS…he‟s a great guy.

                         MADISON
               He is isn‟t he?

Her face goes emotionless again as she sips her margarita.

                         EVELYN
               How did you two meet?

                         MADISON
Three years ago on New Year‟s Eve
at a friend‟s party. My girlfriend

Anonymous 95
introduced me to him. I thought he
was extremely cocky but not too
              arrogant.

                        EVELYN
              I now what you mean.

                        MADISON
As you could imagine ANNY‟S charm,
smile, and spontaneity lured me to
              him.

ANONYMOUS, fresh out the shower wearing only pajama bottoms
enters the room. He still has his dry towel around his
neck as he continues to dry his jet-black hair.

                        ANONYMOUS
                    (Rubbing his ears)
My ears are burning. You two must
              be talking about me.

MADISON puts her glass down, springs up, and leaps on
ANONYMOUS. Her legs wrap around his waist as she kisses
him.

                        MADISON
              You‟re not going anywhere. Tonight
              you‟re mine.

She kisses him again. He stumbles into the hallway, but he
forces himself halfway into the living room again.

                        ANONYMOUS
EVELYN, you‟re ok with sleeping in
              here right?

                        EVELYN
                   (Sarcastic)
              I‟ll be fine. I got a pillow, a
warm blanket, and satellite TV. I
              couldn‟t ask for more.

                        ANONYMOUS

Sorry we don‟t have an extra roo…

A hand grabs him by his neck, snatching him deep into the
hallway. A door slams shut soon after.

EVELYN curls up on the sofa under her warm thick blanket.
She turns the volume up on the TV to block out the laughter
and moans escaping form bedroom in the back.

Twenty minutes later when the thumping of a headboard stops
banging a wall, she rises from the sofa and grabs a half
filled bottle of tequila from the kitchen.

She creeps back to the living room and gently falls to the
sofa again. As she unscrews the cap, thumping arising from
the bedroom again. The sound of a bed creaking and moans
follow.

THIRTY MINUTES LATER

Evelyn has sipped down most of the tequila.

After she hears someone wash in the bathroom and exit from
it, Evelyn tiptoes to it with the tequila bottle clinched
in her hand.

ANONYMOUS‟ BEDROOM

She notices ANONYMOUS‟ bedroom door is open as she walks
pass. She glances in; both he and MADISON are fast asleep
atop of one another.

BATHROOM

EVELYN flicks on the lights, staggers into the bathroom.
She slips on a puddle of water but manages to catch her
balance as she falls against a window‟s edge.

She drops to her knees, crawls to the tub, and turns on the
water. Next, she picks herself up and rummages through
ANONYMOUS‟ medicine cabinet. She comes across a bottle of
lithium.

                         EVELYN
               Prescribed to ANONYMOUOS NAVARRO.

She shuts off the running water and steps into the tub
clothes and all. Before she lies down in the water she
gulps down the last remnants of tequila, drops the bottle
to the floor.

As the bottle rolls within a foot of the bathroom door, she
sinks down in the water and lies flat on the smooth
porcelain surface.

                        EVELYN
We can‟t all be as strong as you
               RICHARD.

Water flows up and over the edges of the tub as she
submerges herself deeper. Her face and hands remain dry
above the water. She opens the small bottle of lithium,
peeks inside at the pills in their pink transparent casing.

She buries her head completely beneath the water‟s surface
but her right hand hangs over the edge of tub with the open
bottle of lithium clinched between her fingers.

She closes her eyes and visions of the past flood her mind,
images of the fire, failed suicide attempts, her time in a
mental hospital, and her days with ANONYMOUS flicker in her
head like a reel of film.

FIFTY SECONDS LATER

The visions have stopped. She exhales, unleashing a gentle
flurry of bubbles to the water‟s surface.

TWENTY SECONDS LATER

Her heartbeat is faint and growing fainter with each
passing second. The lithium pills clinched between her
fingers falls from her hand and scatter across the floor in
a dozen places.

TEN SECONDS LATER

Anonymous 98
Her pulse continues to fade until finally she hasn‟t one at
all. A thin stream of blood discharges out of her ears and
mouth encircling her face.

ANONYMOUS‟ BEDROOM

Half an hour has passed. MADISON awakens from her sleep.
She pops her lips twice then nudges ANONYMOUS.

                         MADISON
               ANNY, baby, I‟m thirsty.

                         ANONYMOUS
               Huh?

                         MADISON
I‟m thirsty. Will you get me
               something to drink?

                         ANONYMOUS
               Ok.

He wipes sleep from his eyes, sits up on the bed, pops his
neck. He continues out the bedroom door on into the
kitchen. His hands, still rubbing sleep from his eyes,
keep him from noticing the open bathroom door, with light
on.

KITCHEN

He grabs a glass from an overhead cabinet and fills it with
ice and cold tap water. As he walks out the kitchen, he
notices the living room TV is still on. He walks over,
finds the remote and turns it off.

LIVING ROOM

He starts to back to the bedroom but a sudden thought
causes him to pause. He makes his way back over to the TV,
cuts it on, and sets the glass of water down. Then he lifts
up the covers on the couch.

               EVELYN.

He wonders around his apartment in search EVELYN. He walks
back to the kitchen, checks if a knife is missing. None
are missing. He walks back to get the glass of water. Light
emitting into hallway catches his attention. He rushes to
the bathroom.

BATHROOM

Upon entering, the first thing he sees is an empty bottle
of tequila by the door then dozens of pills on the floor.
His attention shifts to EVELYN‟S limp body. A ring of
blood on top of the water distorts his view of her face.

He leans over the side of the tub, lifts her head up.

                           ANONYMOUS
               EVELYN!

He checks for a pulse; there isn‟t one. Her body is pale
and limp. He cradles her in his arms as he sits on the
edge of the tub and sheds tears.

MADISON walks into the bathroom, gasps. She has a faint
smile on her face. She removes it she nears ANONYMOUS.

                         ANONYMOUS
               She‟s dead.

MADISON sits beside him, wraps her arms around him.

EXT. LAKELAND CEMETARY – MORNING

There‟s a crowd of forty people gathered around for
EVELYN‟S grave sight. Faces among the crowd include MR.
PERKASIE, co-workers, MADISON, and ANONYMOUS, and a few of
EVELYN‟S past lovers.

REVEREND DUNN has asked ANONYMOUS to say a few words about
Evelyn. ANONYMOUS steps before everyone shaky, hands
sweaty. His shaking is put at ease once he gazes at

EVELYN‟S casket.

                         ANONYMOUS
EVELYN FISHER, I knew her briefly,
but I loved her. In her I saw me.
Going through bouts of mania and
               depression much like I did.

As he pauses the view of everyone drifts away. There is a
growing view of the entire cemetery as ANONYMOUS speaks.

                         ANONYMOUS (V.0)
I thought I could help EVELYN like
my fiancée MADISON helpd me. I
thought if I could be her outlet,
her friend, get her to share her
               inner most thoughts and feelings
with me, I could keep her from
               committing suicide. I failed her.
I pray her soul is at peace with
her family. EVELYN, I loved you.

Fade to closing credits as EVELYN‟S coffin is lowered into
the ground.
