Operation Greenpathway
Investigation into a series of assaults in Lozells, Birmingham.

DETECTIVES in Birmingham have launched an investigation into a series of assaults
in the Lozells area of the city.

Operation Greenpathway is an inquiry into six incidents, which have taken place
between June and December 2009.

Officers investigating the offences have now linked the assaults due to the nature of
the assaults and the description of the offender.

The first incident was on June 9th, with five further offences taking place up until
December 6th. All have taken place within a close proximity to one another in the
Lozells area.

In each incident a lone male has been assaulted, with no known motive. None of the
men have been seriously injured. On each occasion a knife has been either used, or
been seen by the victim.

Detective Chief Inspector Steven Reed from Thornhill Road Police Station said:
“Whilst the injuries caused during these assaults have not been serious so far, we
are concerned by the nature and the number of the incidents.

“We know that robbery is not a motive for the crimes, as nothing has been taken by
the offender in any of the incidents and we do not believe that the offender is
specifically targeting his victims for a reason such as race or any other hate crime.

“No words have been spoken by the offender to any of his victims and the majority of
incidents have taken place in hours of darkness, when there have been few people
around.

“We have increased patrols in the area and have spoken with local residents and
community groups in an effort to gain further information to assist the inquiry, and
provide people with knowledge they need to help keep them safe.”

The offender is described as a black man, aged between 18 and 30, of slim build and
between 5ft 8in and 6ft tall. The man has had his face covered for each assault.

Officers urge anyone with information relating to the incidents, or who recognises the
description of the offender to contact CID at Thornhill Road police station on 0845
113 5000 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
