PEACOCK HAY, PEACOCK HAY ROAD, STOKE ON TRENT ST17 1UN At Peacock Hay we offer support to seven adults with a learning disability, autistic spectrum disorders and associated needs. Peacock Hay is a large, detached property, set in an acre of land, which can be accessed by those living at the service, with views over Mow Cop, a well known local beauty spot. The service is located near the village of Talke and within walking distance of a number of towns. We have access to a wide range of shopping, leisure and education facilities in Stoke-on- Trent and Newcastle-under-Lyme. We encourage all service users to take part in a variety of activities, including bowling, sports, horse riding and visiting the cinema and local attractions such as Alton Towers, the Potteries, Little Moreton Hall, Festival Park and Stapley Water Gardens. Each service user has an individualised plan of activities that is meaningful and appropriate to their needs and preferences. The individuals we support often have communication needs and we address this by implementing effective communication tools and systems in line with their assessed needs. All individuals are supported to develop their existing abilities and we take a person centred approach, including each person in the running of the service. Staff are supported by the Regional Behavioural Therapist, who equips them with the skills and knowledge they require, and person centred plans include the communication needs and preferences of each individual. Understanding Individual Needs The property has been extensively renovated, with a warm and welcoming décor. There is a large lounge, leading to a conservatory which overlooks the rear garden. A separate activity centre is provided at the rear of the property where service users can pursue a range of interests and there is a fully equipped sensory room. There is a large, accessible kitchen where service users will be supported to prepare meals and snacks, as well as two dining rooms. The service has seven bedrooms, each of which has an en-suite bathroom with either a bath or a shower, depending on individual preference. We encourage people to bring their own belongings and to decorate their rooms in the style they wish. The environment has been carefully designed to respond to and support the needs of people who challenge, while providing a warm and homely environment, with a low stimulus décor.
