HOW DO I FIND…SPOKEN WORD RECORDINGS? The Archer library has a selection of spoken word recordings on vinyl records and compact discs. Spoken word, or non-musical, recordings refer to plays, poetry, prose, interviews and speeches that are available in a wide variety of audio formats including vinyl records, cassette tapes, compact discs and online via the Internet. • At the Library Home Page, click “Search Catalogue.” Click here • From the WebVoyage page click on “Basic Search.” Click here • On the next screen, click on the “Limits” icon at the bottom right-hand side. Click here • • • You can now set search limits, such as specifying language, location, item type, etc. In this case, go to the “Item Type” options and scroll down and select “Nonmusical Recording,” then click on the “Set Limits” button at the top left corner of the screen. Hint: Any limits set will remain in effect during your search session until they are cancelled. To cancel limits, click on the “Erase Limits” icon on the bottom of the screen. 2) Click here. 1) Select item type. Erase limits option. • • Now that the limits are set, you are ready to do your search. Highlight the “Keyword Boolean” search under “Find Results In.” Enter your key concepts in the text box and click “Search.” o e.g. Shakespeare and Hamlet 2) Key concepts 1) Highlight type of search 3) Click search • On the search results screen, click on the number of the item you are interested in to view the Location, Call Number and Loan Status. Click • Note the Call Number and go to the Location to get the item. o Spoken word recordings on vinyl are located in the Audio Visual/Micromaterials area on the Main Floor of the Archer Library. Compact discs are located at the Borrowing Desk on the Main Floor and in the general collection of the Archer Library on the 3rd and 4rth floors. o e.g. The first item in the retrieved list is entitled “Hamlet” by William Shakespeare. o This sound recording is located in ARCHER in the Audio Visual / Micromaterials area. Location Call Number Item available • Consult Library Information Desk staff if in doubt. o Visit the Information Desk in the Archer Library, call 585-4134/4495, or fill out a help request.
