Step-by-step: a quick guide to the online world at Loma Linda University
See the glossary file for definitions.
Are you getting lost on the information highway? Do you know what an LDAP is? Do you know what Banner is, how to find it—and how to use it? Do you know what DUN and DUIS stand for? Do you have a feeling of being woefully behind-the-times as more and more of Loma Linda University’s functions are assigned to the web, and thus to your computer screen?
Do you know how to check out a recent purchase order online? How to apply to a particular school online? How to give a gift online? How to register for classes online? How to find someone’s pager number online? How to edit content of your online web page?
This document, alphabetically organized, aims to help prospective and current students, faculty, and staff successfully find, and make your way through, the various online and new “eUniversity” procedures now in use or being prepared for launch at Loma Linda University. Click the glossary link above to access the glossary of terms and acronyms frequently seen in this new “eUniversity” world.

• Pell Grants are awarded solely on demonstrated financial need to every eligible undergraduate student who hasn't already earned a bachelor's or professional degree. Pell Grants don’t need to be repaid. The funds can be used for tuition, fees, and living expenses. You can even receive a Pell Grant if you’re attending college less than half time. • When you file the FAFSA, you're automatically considered for a Pell Grant. For the 2001-2002 award year, Pell Grants for full-time students ranged from $400 to $3,750. The amount of your Pell Grant will depend on your financial need, your college costs, and whether you’re attending college full time or part time. You can receive only one Pell Grant a year, and you may not receive Pell Grant funds to attend more than one college at a time. • Check with the office of financial aid to see if you qualify for a Pell Grant. They are located at 11139 Anderson Street. Their office phone is 558-4509. Their fax is: 558-4879, and their email address is: finaid@univ.llu.edu. Grants: Supplemental educational opportunity grants, federal (SEOG) • Go to this page: http://www.llu.edu/ssweb/finaid/aid.html for this and other loans. • These grants range between $100 and $4,000 per year and are offered to undergraduate students who have exceptional financial need, with priority given to Pell Grant recipients. Unlike Pell Grants there’s no guarantee every eligible student will receive one. In addition, funds are limited. These grants don’t need to be paid back.

See Passwords and Access Codes on how to establish a Loansome Doc account. * Search EbscoHost databases • Academic Search Full-Text offers full text for over 1,000 journals. 380 journals date back to 1990, the rest are for more recent years only. • Health Source Plus offers full text for over 240 periodicals as well as over 1,000 health pamphlets. • See Passwords and Access Codes on how to get the EbscoHost password for off-campus use. * Browse electronic journals • Go to Electronic Journals. Databases such as Medline and CINAHL are still the best way to search for journal articles by topic. * Search Internet • Use an Internet search engine to locate journals on the web (particularly nonprofit or governmentproduced journals). • Go to the library’s Internet Resources Reference Shelf. Click the link Search Engines. Choose a search engine and type the name of the journal. • Full text of every article from each journal found on the Internet may not be available. Special Considerations: • Cost Centers are assigned to area codes. Area codes define which cost center(s) a department head sees on their salary paysheet. If you are not the owner of the cost center, you will not receive the salary paysheet for that cost center. • Changes to salary paysheets should be limited to hour changes for a single pay period. All other changes are driven by the documents returned and listed above. • Payroll cannot make pay period changes listed on the salary paysheet that relate to rates of pay, departments, job codes, object codes, and budgeted hours unless the applicable documentation has been submitted to the appropriate department (listed above). • To avoid overpayment, payroll will make changes to current pay cycles for terminated employees if it is stated on the salary paysheet that an employee is no longer employed. However, in order to have terminated employees permanently off the salary paysheet, a termination form must be submitted to the appropriate department (listed above). • Payroll cannot pay new hires listed on the salary paysheet until the proper new hire paperwork has been submitted to HRM. • Should you have additional questions concerning salary psaysheet and the paperwork needed to complete a transaction not listed above, please contact Connie Bennion at (909) 558-8091 or extension 88901.
