Artisan Contract
Do you have a great hand-made item that needs some extra exposure?
Simply Loved Gifts Boutique started with a few local artists and artisans who thought it would
be more practical to combine our marketing efforts, thus saving ourselves time and money.
Where one artist may find it difficult to afford a $1000 advertising campaign, 20 could more
easily afford $50. We choose artists and artisans in different categories and then help actively
promote their work online, in home shows, craft shows and physical stores. Our approach is a bit
unique in design as we actively work to promote each other and the boutique.
What you will get: (It's a lot....)
1. Your own artisan page on the website boutique listing your store items. We want to
personalize this for you and your customers, because people like to "hear your story" and see
a face. We will create a bio page with your picture on it (we'll even take the pictures if you
need it.) On this page it is ideal to show you working at your art, so we will have a number
of pictures (we can take them or you can send them to us if you have a digital camera)
showing you doing your work. We will talk with you about the process you use and have that
on your site as well for visitors to see.
2. We provide you with e-mail and USPS marketing so you can more easily gain repeat
customers. Our boutique sends out a monthly newsletter to our customers via USPS and e-
mail. Each one of the artisans have a spot in that newsletter and we have a focus on two to
three artists per month so each year you are with us you get the extra exposure twice a year.
(Note: If you wish to have us run your own individual e-mail/USPS marketing for just your
customers, we can create a plan for your specific needs. Our time is $20/hr for creative
writing, newsletter creation and other services.)
3. Your own subscription page on our online boutique. This is a unique concept to Simply
Loved Gifts Boutique. If you had 100 people you knew would buy $20 of products monthly
from your store, would that stability help you to move forward? You bet it would!! That's a
steady $2000 a month sales income. We work with each individual to set a goal just for their
store - for what YOU need and work toward getting consistent monthly customers for your
store.
4. We will market the Simply Loved Gifts Boutique (and that means marketing your items)
through online (Google/Yahoo/eBay) marketing as well as print advertising. Please
understand, out of the money we obtain from commissions, 15% - 20% goes back into
marketing the store and your products.
5. The biggest thing you get is the one-on-one help for ideas and suggestions to help you
get sales. We do our very best to get you as much business as possible. We don't guarantee
sales, but we DO guarantee to do our very best to promote you and your art!
Requirements:
1. Items must be non-perishable, hand-made items made by people living in the United States.
(Jars of honey, jams, etc are fine, but no breads, cookies, etc.) We are looking for quality,
unique hand-crafted items: jewelry, hand-made dolls clothes, hand-made hats, scarves,
kitchen towels, glassware, ceramics, gift items are just some of the many things we will carry.
2. Artist is responsible for their own licensing. Any licenses (sales tax, etc) you need personally
is your responsibility. We carry the licensing needed for our stores.
3. We are a bit conservative in our approach (bear with us as each must answer to God for
his/her own conscience) and though all artisans are welcome regardless of religion, we are a
Christian-owned company and will only sell products reflecting the values of the company.
We do not permit any items with wording that is in any way derogatory, cursing, etc.
Uplifting and encouraging words are most welcome! We also do not celebrate Halloween,
but welcome fall items during that season.
4. Each member seller must agree to a two week full refund policy as we want to offer our
customers a 100% money back guarantee. Payments to artisans on items sold reflect this two
week delay.
5. Each member agrees to PROMOTE FOUR and PROMOTE the STORE.*
6. Each member agrees to give four hours per month of time to running the store. During this
time, though we expect the artisans to mention the different art in the store and to take sales,
we encourage you to actively promote your own work! We will advertise and let customers
know when you will be there, so they can come talk to you about your art. Feel free to bring
extra things - the tools you use, etc - on that day to enhance your time there. You may opt out
of a month for $40 for that month if you prefer not to actively be in the store.
7. You agree to give us up to 20 items physically, 1/3 go to your web store (it's easier to keep
these separate) and 2/3 to the physical store in Larkspur.
Please Note: Spacing is limited. We also desire to keep a good balance of a variety of items. SLGB has the right to
deny membership to sellers for any reason.
So, could you use more sales? ☺
The Costs
The costs are FAR lower than you would expect to pay if you started your own web store and
took the time and money to do what we will do for you. The price SHOULD be about twice
what we are charging for 2010, but we know the economy has hit everyone and are bringing this
down as low as we possibly can so you (and we) can get this ball rolling.
*
"Promote Four, Promote the Store" - We place you and three others in a complimentary team of four. You promote
the store and the other members of your team through fliers we create for you as well as through word of mouth at
your shows, craft fairs, etc.
1. There is an initial one-time set up fee of between $60 and $120. This includes our coming
out to your place and taking pictures, creating your web pages and your artisan story pages. It
also includes up to 10 items listed online, plus up to 20 items placed in our physical boutique
in The Little Flower Shop in Larkspur, CO.
2. The costs are a base of $25 per month, plus 35% commission from sales. You CAN raise
your prices a bit to compensate for the commission. We will discuss the details of this with
each artist/artisan to get the best realistic price for you and your customers. We promote you;
we don't mind telling people they can visit one of your crafts shows and get the products
cheaper than what they'd pay at our store. Either way, you win.
3. You must agree to a one year contract. Growth takes time. I can make no guarantee that you
(or I) will make a single sale. (Don't you hate the hype and lies of people who claim your
success is guaranteed? I do!) Let's be real. We are in an economy that isn't what it was two
years ago -- we need to join together and help each other! At Simply Loved Gifts Boutique
we can't promise you sales, but we DO promise and guarantee that we will do our very best to
actively promote YOUR products online, in home shows, in the Larkspur store and to work
with you to find ways for you to increase your sales and profits.
Payment Options
1. Pay in full up front and receive a 10% discount on your whole year. We take checks, cash or
you can send a PayPal payment using a credit or debit card to masonchrista@yahoo.com.
(Please make checks out to Christa Mason.) Your contract will have the amount owed for the
year.
2. Pay the set up fee plus first month payment and then pay $25 per month for the remaining 11
months. We can bill you monthly via USPS or we can set up payments for you through
PayPal if you have internet access. (PayPal would automatically take the $25 per month from
your account.)
