The Exalted Lord (How Do You See Him?) Isaiah 33:5-6 & 6:1-5 Today’s lesson is intended to get you to examine your relationship with Your Lord & Savior. Can you honestly say that the Lord knows you? Does the love of the Lord abide in you? Is the Lord Jesus Christ truly first in your life? These questions cannot be answered until Christ reveals himself to you. It is also true that one cannot truly reverence God until they see the Lord as he truly is. Jesus Christ is the anointed Messiah chosen by God to deliver man from the curse of sin (which is death). Jesus is the one that the prophets of old prophesied about. He is the Holy one of Israel. He is the King of Kings & the Lord of Lords. He is from everlasting to everlasting & has all power in his hands. How we see the lord, will determine how we worship him and how we live our lives before him. Let us examine a couple of cases where the revelation of the Lord brought men to walk in the light. In our memory scripture Isaiah the prophet observes the Lord in his glory. The key to understanding this passage of scripture is to understand that Jesus Christ is the exalted King. Isaiah says “I saw the Lord high & lifted up, and his train filled the temple” ( Isaiah 6:1). In verse 3 Isaiah reveals the fact that the Seraphim cry holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts. When Isaiah realized that Jesus is worshipped in heaven, notice his attitude in verse 5. Isaiah says woe is me! He says this because his sins are exposed in the presence of God. Not only are Isaiah’s sins exposed, but so is everyone else’s. Given this passage of scripture, how can anyone justify man in God’s eyes? The truth is that it cannot be done. There is only one that is able to boast of pleasing the father. It is Christ Jesus our Lord. Matthew testifies in his gospel that God says “This is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased” (Matt 3:17). Jesus also declares in John 8:29 “I do always those things that please him.” As we can see from scripture, it behooves us to exalt the Lord because he is our only hope of glory. Exactly how high is Jesus Christ lifted? The answer is clearly given in scripture. The Apostle Paul describes the Lord in 1st Timothy 6:15-16 as the only true Potentate. The Greek rendering of the word potentate is dunastes which means ruler. Jesus is not just ruler but he is immortal and dwells in the light which no man can approach. What goes through your mind when you think of God? When you think of Jesus? Can we see how undone we are? Can we see how we do not measure up to the standards of holiness which God requires? Can we see how only Jesus Christ can fill the gap between man and a holy God? He is truly exalted! Now, getting back to the prophet Isaiah in chapter 33:5; he says the Lord is exalted and fills Zion (the holy city) with judgment & righteousness. In verse six Isaiah concludes that seeing the Lord exalted should produce the fear (reverence) of the Lord which is his treasure.
