					MUSIC AT KEY STAGE 3 (YEARS 7-9)

Music is taught in mixed ability groups of 24 students with a timetable allocation of
one double period per week. The Music National Curriculum is covered through
lessons which involve the key areas of Performing, Composing and Appraising, and a
practical approach provides opportunities for all students to be involved in music
making in the classroom.

Key Stage 3 topic areas include:

Year 7
Music for Occasions (exploring why music is composed)
Minimalism (exploring patterns and rhythm)
Medieval Music (exploring scales and modes)
The Folk Tradition (exploring scales and modes)
Impressionism (exploring scales and chord clusters)

Year 8
Musical Structures (Variations, Arrangements, Binary, Ternary, Rondo)
Music for Dance (exploring music written for dance through the ages)

Year 9
Music for Voices (exploring the main styles of music written in the Pop tradition
during the 20th Century)
