• Giving feedback requires getting information
• Often the information that we get seems to be
  uninteresting or we don’t collect it at all
• A-Clinic Foundation collects information and
  feedback of
  – AUDIT on-line
  – Comprehensive test on alcohol use
  – Promille - BAC by SMS
                     AUDIT

• Standard ten question Alcohol Use Disorder
  Identification Test by WHO
• With three additional questions
  – Sex
  – Age
  – Who is the test for (oneself, spouse, child, other
    family member or client)
                         AUDIT
• On-line database saves the time, points, sex,
  age and who is the test for
• The number of error messages are stored to
  find out if people don’t want to tell personal
  background information
• Only 5 % didn’t fill all the required information
  at the first time
> It seems that people don’t mind us asking personal questions

Results from the first week:
• 199 people made the test
• 55 % were women
• 62 % were over the age of 25
• 93 % of women test themselves
• 81 % of men test themselves

Results from the first week:
• 68 % made the test between 9.00 - 17.00
• The average result for women was 11
• The average result for men was 16
   – The drinking is considered to be harmful if points
     exceed 8 and clearly harmful with over 17 points
• 5 % got 0 points > who are they?
   COMPREHENSIVE TEST
• Originally Canadian test that has been slightly
  formulated and improved
• 22 questions: AUDIT, number of drinks on a
  typical month or week (calendar), harmful
  effects & background information
• Feedback: yearly statistics, absorbing and
  burning of alcohol, risky and sensible drinking
   COMPREHENSIVE TEST
• Volunteer feedback form with 13 questions
• First we collected just the feedback by email
• Over 900 received feedback messages
• Two on-line databases save all the information
  – One saves all the answers
  – Other saves the feedback
  – The feedback can be combined to the answers by
    an individual ID-number

• How much time one is under the influence in a year
• How many portions one drinks in a year
• Amount of calories one gets from alcohol
• How the risk of getting into accidents grows
> Perhaps we should stress these issues more on alcohol
prevention?

Friday 3rd - Sunday 12th of October 2003
• 873 people made the test
• Average age was 27
• 52 % were women
• 46 people (5 %) filled the feedback form
• 16 (2 %) left their email address
> Quite selected group gives feedback

• On average people report drinking 5-6
  standard portions of alcohol in a typical day
  when they drink some (AUDIT)
• On average they drank 7,7 standard portions
  last time they drank alcohol (women 5,8)
> Is it easier to embellish the truth with the classifications?

• On average people report drinking eleven
  portions per week (women 7,5)
• 9 % filled the monthly calendar

  you felt your alcohol use had a harmful effect
  on your friendships or social life?
  – 22 % answered yes (16 % of women)

  – 30 % answered yes (31 % of women)

             PROMILLE SMS
• SMS service was launched on 11.4.2000
• You just send an sms containing sex, weight, amount
  of drinks (in standard portions) and the starting time of
  drinking
   – For example: M 71 5 1530
   – Send it to number 16400
   – You get an estimate of your blood alcohol content and how
     long will it take until the alcohol has left your system
• On-line database saves the information from
  messages

•   75 % of users are men
•   25 % are women
•   On average men report drinking 10 portions
•   Women report drinking 7 portions
•   The average result (BAL) for men is 0.694
•   The average result (BAL) for women is 0.661
