             DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURAL ECONOMICS


TITLE:                     Assistant Extension State Specialist

SALARY:                    Competitive

NATURE OF                  This is a full-time Non Tenure Faculty Track Position with
POSITION:                  an 11-month appointment on grant funding. Grant
                           currently through August 31, 2006, with a good chance of
                           the grant being renewed for several additional years (one-
                           year contracts.

POSITION                   Specialist will conduct applied research and prepare rural
DESCRIPTION:               health education material. The professional will need to be
                           proficient in statistical packages, economic tools, and
                           computer spreadsheets. Professional will present materials
                           to local, state, regional and national audiences.
                           Professional will represent Cooperative Extension on state,
                           regional, and national committees that derive rural health
                           policy. Special emphasis will be placed on conducting
                           strategic health planning and health impact analysis at the
                           community and state level and on conducting evaluation of
                           critical access hospital program on a national level.

QUALIFICATIONS:            Master’s degree in Agricultural Economics or related field
                           or B.S. degree with related experience. Effective oral and
                           written communication skills are a necessity. Effective
                           group facilitation and group training skills are a necessity.
                           Experience in computer spreadsheets and word processors
                           are a necessity; experience in SAS and database
                           management would be helpful. Experience in community
                           or strategic planning would be helpful.
