Description
The CAD Operator’s role is to prepare complex drawings, diagrams, and
documents using computer-aided design (CAD) software within the organization.
This includes developing CAD files based on notes, sketches, engineering
schematics, technical guides, vendor information, and so on. The CAD Operator
will produce CAD files in a timely and accurate fashion. This position may include
duties involving artwork and other graphical elements.
Responsibilities
Consult sketches, notes, schematics, guides, and other documentation to
create detailed, 3-D CAD drawings of corporate products.
Produce CAD models of prototypes by collaborating with product
designers, technicians, engineers, and other manufacturing professionals.
Create product design drawings, packaging specifications, facility layout,
topographical design, and other models as required.
Develop block diagrams for mechanical structures, as well as electrical
and electronic schematics.
Follow established CAD standards in regards to layering, dimensioning,
text annotations, and other aspects of CAD usage.
Review existing CAD drawings and designs to ensure adherence to
established specifications and standards.
Edit, rework, and update CAD drawing files as required by product
changes, modifications, additions, and so on.
Liaise and co-ordinate with the business units, clients, and other
stakeholders for project planning and integration.
Recommend strategies for document management as it relates to CAD
outputs, including collection and revision.
Recommend and/or develop a comprehensive naming and archiving
scheme for storing and retrieving CAD drawings.
Where necessary, assist in migration projects to newer versions of CAD
applications.
Liaise and negotiate with vendors and suppliers to secure CAD software,
products, and services.
Conduct research on new and emerging CAD technologies or
technologies that can be leveraged through existing CAD investments.
