									SITE VICE PRESIDENT - JOB DESCRIPTION

Introduction

There are two sides to all sabbatical posts; the duties as a Trustee of the Union in
accordance with Charity Law and the Constitution, and the duties as an elected
Union Administrator.

Sabbatical Officers in their year of office are in stewardship of the Union for that
year. The Union employs full-time professional staff in order that Sabbatical Officers
have the financial and legal requirements adhered to.

The main responsibilities of Sabbatical Officers are laid down in the Constitution of
the Union. These, together with other necessary elements essential to the post are
included in the following Job Description. It is not possible to include the full range
of duties which will actually occur in a post to meet the day to day requirements of
the organisation and the changing environment.

   1.      STAFFING/FINANCE

           (i)     As Trustee, ensure the Union acts as a good employer, complies
                   with all employment legislation and ensure the Union meets its
                   legal obligation to the Equality Commission.

           (ii)    In conjunction with the General Manager, acts as a member of the
                   Appeals Panel for all Staff Disciplinary issues.

           (iii)   Is a member of Finance, General Purposes and Staffing
                   Committee.

           (iv)    Cheque signatory for Students’ Union, Club Bars, Sports Union,
                   and Hardship accounts.

           (v)     Working with the General Manager, ensure that the University
                   grant is properly controlled.


   2.      REPRESENTATION

           (i)     Attend all Union Committee/Meetings as required.

           (ii)    Attend all University Committee/Meetings as required.

           (iii)   Attend NUS/USI Meetings as required.
     (iv)    Responsible for the implementation of Union Policy and co-
             ordination of Campaigns.


3.   CLUB BAR

     (i)     Ensure that the Bar Annual General Meeting takes place and the
             Bar Committee meet on a regular basis.

     (ii)    Work with the Bar Manager in relation to entertainment pricing
             and promotion.

     (iii)   Site Vice-President is Secretary of the Club.

     (iv)    Work with General Manager in co-ordinating Disciplinary Hearings
             as required.


4.   EXECUTIVE RESPONSIBILITY

     (i)     Responsible for organising elections for Site Committee.

     (ii)    Chairperson of Site Committee.

     (iii)   Assist Societies on completion of budget forms.

     (iv)    Assist Societies on completion of expenditure requests.

     (v)     Ensure Societies Open Campus Meetings take place on a regular
             basis, encouraging new Societies to become constituted.

     (vi)    Ensure Societies operate within budget.

     (vii)   Assist Societies as required.


5.   GENERAL

     (i)     In the absence of the Site Vice President Education and Welfare,
             deal with routine Welfare enquiries.

     (ii)    Assist the Marketing Manager with Ufouria and Student Union
             publications.

     (iii)   In collaboration with the General Manager, work with Commercial
             Managers on all aspects of service.
(iv)     Is a member of Overall Executive.


(v)      Assist the Overall President with co-ordinating Student Union
         elections.

(vi)     Ensure that a work plan is submitted to Overall Executive in
         September of each year.

(vii)    Ensure that the incoming Site Vice President receives a two-week
         hand-over period.

(viii)   Any other duties that may arise during your year of office in
         relation to the role as Site Vice President.
