HOW TO USE THE RATIONAL SOFTWARE The MSE Program Department of Computer Science California State University Fullerton Fullerton, CA 92834-6870, USA mse@ecs.fullerton.edu http://mse.ecs.fullerton.edu Rational Enterprise Edition Some of our classes use the Rational Software with licenses. This describes both how to install Rational Software from your local computers and how to acquire a temporary license. In our department labs, you can directly access the Rational Software without having the installation process, but still you need to acquire a temporary license. To use the Rational Software in our labs, skip the installation process, and follow the licensing process. • First of all you need to get an account on our departmental system “ecs.fullerton.edu”. Get both “user name” and “password” of yours. • Get CDs of Rational Software from the MSE office. It includes the Rational Enterprise Edition, “C56NGML.exe” (360MB). The current version is V.2003.06.12. You may also download it from http://tech.ecs.fullerton.edu/downloads/. • You need to also get a disk that includes “SSH Tunneling Scripts” batch files that the MSE office already prepared for. It includes “License.bat” as well as “plink.exe”, “ReadMe.txt”, and etc. (Rational Software and Parasoft licenses are now handled through “License.bat”.) The “SSH Tunneling Scripts” batch files (“SSH-Tunneling.zip”) are also available from http://tech.ecs.fullerton.edu/downloads/. • Run the “License.bat” script and login to the Titan system (ecs.fullerton.edu) as instructed in the next section - . This builds the SSH tunnel. If helps you acquire the license at the end of installation. If you do not want to run the software immediately, then you can just install the software and follow the license instruction later. • To install the Rational Software, put the CD in your CD drive, and click “C56NGML.exe”. You may see the following installation windows sequentially. Just follow the instruction. CSU Fullerton - Computer Science 1/15 • Click Next after you decide the folder name to install the software. CSU Fullerton - Computer Science 2/15 • Select “Rational Rose Enterprise Edition”, and click Next. Do not click “Rational License Server” at this time. We will configure the license later. You can run the licensing batch file before you install the software if you would like to use the software immediately after installation, however, you can ignore licensing now and install the software first. CSU Fullerton - Computer Science 3/15 • Select “Desktop installation from CD image”. CSU Fullerton - Computer Science 4/15 CSU Fullerton - Computer Science 5/15 • Read the License Agreement, and select “I accept the terms in the license agreement” if you would like to install the software. CSU Fullerton - Computer Science 6/15 • Decide the Destination Folder to install the Software, and click Next. CSU Fullerton - Computer Science 7/15 CSU Fullerton - Computer Science 8/15 • After installing the software, the Setup Complete window appears. • The License Key Administrator Wizard may launch automatically at the end of the installation. Follow the licensing instruction in the next section. CSU Fullerton - Computer Science 9/15  Once you complete the installation, now you are ready to use the Rational Software. However, you need to builds the SSH tunnel to get a license whenever you use the Rational Software. • The License Key Administrator Wizard launches automatically at the end of the installation. Now you can follow the licensing instruction. If the license manager does not launch automatically, you can run it through “Rational License Key Administrator” from the “Rational Software” folder (by choosing the menu: Start => Programs => Rational Software => Rational License Key Administrator). • • If you did not build the SSH tunnel already, run the “License.bat” script and login to the Titan system (ecs.fullerton.edu). This builds the SSH tunnel. This procedure is explained below. You have to do this whenever you would like to use the Rational Software through our license. Only “Rational Rose Enterprise Edition” will work with our licensing. Any other version will not work with our licensing. Our Rational Software is configured to use a floating license. The license will not give licenses to IP addresses, which are not in the “ecs.fullerton.edu” domain. To serve licenses outside of our domain we need to tunnel into the domain using a “SSH Tunnel”. The SSH tunnel effectively links a TCP/IP port on the local machine (“localhost”, your machine in our case) to a port on a remote machine (ecs.fullerton.edu). License requests then appear to be originating from within the domain to the license server. The local machine should have its licensing software configured to use floating, “localhost”, and default port (1726). If you use “License.bat” in the bundled software in the “SSH CSU Fullerton - Computer Science 10/15 Tunneling Scripts” disk, you can easily get the tunnel (“plink.exe” is used in “License.bat”). Just run “License.bat” script and login to the Unix system (ecs.fullerton.edu). This builds the tunnel. Then run the Rational Software. • When you build the SSH tunnel, you may be asked to “Store key in cache”. Type “y” for yes for your convenience, and then type in both your login name and password at the prompt. CSU Fullerton - Computer Science 11/15 • When you see “License Key Administrator Wizard”, type “localhost” for the Server Name, and “1726” for the Port ID. Sometimes Windows operating system does not find “localhost”. “127.0.0.1” can be used instead. If it is not automatically shown, you can get it by running “Rational License Key Administrator” from the “Rational Software” folder (by choosing the menu: Start => Programs => Rational Software => Rational License Key Administrator). You may get a temporary license whenever you need, by running this with the SSH tunnel. CSU Fullerton - Computer Science 12/15 • Then you will see the Rational License Key Administrator has your license information. • If your licensing is not successful, you may get some error messages. Then you have to try the licensing process again. Run the License Key Wizard again from the Rational License Key Administrator (by choosing the menu – Start => Programs => Rational Software => Rational License Key Administrator => License Keys => License Key Wizard). CSU Fullerton - Computer Science 13/15 • Once you acquire the license, you can run the Rational Software. You can run “Rational Rose Enterprise Edition” from the “Rational Software” folder (by choosing the menu: Start => Programs => Rational Software => Rational Rose Enterprise Edition). • You may choose any model you want to create UML models. You are ready to use the Rational Rose. CSU Fullerton - Computer Science 14/15 • • When finished, close all the Rational Software, then close the tunnel. Whenever you use the Rational Software later, you have to open the SSH tunnel to get a license and open Rational Software. • You may also download a free evaluation version from the Rational Software: o Rational Rose Win Evaluation, http://www.ibm.com/developerWorks/toolbox/download.html, 2004. o Rational Unified Process Win Evaluation (Trials and Betas), http://www14.software.ibm.com/webapp/download/home.jsp?s=p, 2004. • If you meet any problem to install or use it, please try it several times again by following this instruction.
