					Chapter 9 How to Use the Library Tool (Student)
To use the library tool is a profile based permission tool. (Student)

Click on the “Student” button on the left side menu.



This will cause the student tool bar to appear. Select the “Library” Icon.

If you click the “Delete Reserves” button it will delete all the book titles that you
have selected that are on reserve. A screen will appear with a message confirming
that the selected titles have been deleted.




When the “Library” Icon was clicked, two icons appeared in the left side menu.

EBSCO Database Search




The first icon is a one-click jump into the ATLA on-line database search. Just click
the icon, and the window will jump to the website. It will already be logged in.




The Vanguard Library Search

This tool allows you to search the Vanguard College library. Clicking the icon will
take you immediately to the student search page.




Searching by Title
When searching by Title, check off the “Title” box in the yellow field.




Searching by Author
If you choose to search by author check off the “Author” box in the yellow field. It is
best to only enter one name, preferably the last name. Do not add comas or
periods.

Searching by Subject
To search by subject, check the “Subject” box in the yellow field. When a book is
received by the library, they categorize that book into as many as 8 subjects. When
you search by subject, the program searches through what is written in the subject
lines of the book description. Be as general as possible for best results.

If you click the “View Author List” button, a new screen will pop up showing every
author in the library database in alphabetical order.




The “View Subject List” does the same thing for the subject lines.




Entering in Search Criteria
The actual search criteria are entered into the green bars. The search can support
multi-word searches.




When entering search criteria, you can use any of the first three fields in conjunction
with the last one, but you cannot use any of the first three fields in conjunction with
each other.

        Once you’ve entered in the search criteria, click the “Book Search” button.

        Search Results
        Search results will be shown to the right of the search tool bar.

        If you click on either the Book title or the author’s name, you will be taken into a
        detailed description of the book.

If you click the “View Bibliography” text on the right side of the screen, you will be
taken into a screen with the information needed to cite the book in a Bibliography.




If you click instead on the “Google Book Search” Icon, you will be taken directly to
that book’s account in the Google Library.
