Through the Foundation, the E.W. Scripps Company has made a multi-million dollar commitment to growing the pool of minorities interested in and qualified to participate in communication media. WCPO-TV's Clyde Gray is a current Trustee of the Scripps Howard Foundation, and thus, for example, helps oversee the Foundation's continuing $10 million commitment to build and help operate the new Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications at Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia, a Historically Black College & University or HBCU. The Foundation provides Hampton with bricks and mortar funding, educational program funding, and ongoing direct company involvement through WCPO-TV and other Scripps stations and newspapers. Ongoing activities include the Foundation's funding of a Scripps Chair and numerous programs at the school.
