Statistics Canada's role:

 The major collector of socio-economic data and statistics in Canada


 STCs major functions are to collect data, to compile and publish statistics, and to
  provide some descriptive analysis of those statistics.


 What is the Data Liberation Initiative (DLI): a subscription service available only
  to universities and colleges in Canada (CARL and CASUL member institution),
  which provides access to a copy of each standard data or statistics product produced
  by Statistics Canada
