A Brief Introduction to ZUEL

Founded in 1948, Zhongnan University of Economics and Law (ZUEL) is located in Wuhan, a metropolis of Central China.

It is an institution of higher education under the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China with economics,

law, and management as its core disciplines. These are coordinated with the development of eight other disciplines

including literature, history, philosophy, engineering, etc. ZUEL is also one of the universities sponsored by “211

project”, which is the Chinese government's new endeavor aimed at strengthening about 100 institutions of higher

education and key disciplinary areas as a national priority for the 21st century.



ZUEL is comprised of the School of Humanities, School of Economics, School

of Finance and Taxation, Xinhua School of Banking and Insurance, Law

School, School of Public Security, School of Foreign Studies, School of

Journalism and Mass Media, School of Business and Administration, School

of Public Administration, School of Accountancy, School of Information

Technology, as well as School of MBA, School of Intellectual Property Rights,

School of Further Education, and Wuhan School. There is a full-time

teaching and administrative staff of 2,445 members at ZUEL, including 1,360 teachers, among which there are 219

professors, 472 associate professors, and 87 doctoral supervisors. ZUEL has 1 key research base of humanities at the

state level, 2 key disciplines at the state level, 4 key research bases of humanities at the provincial level, 19 key

disciplines at the ministerial and provincial level, 35 undergraduate programs, 64 master programs, 32 doctoral

programs, and 3 post-doctoral programs. The university is also authorized to award MBA, EMBA, JM, MPAcc, MPA, ME

(Master of Education) degrees, and enrolls students from overseas as well as from Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao. It

also enrolls approximately 20,000 full-time undergraduates, 5,000 postgraduate students, doctoral students,

post-doctoral students, and over 5,000 adult students.



                                             Zhongnan University of Economics and Law covers an area of over 210

                                             hectares, and has a combined floor space of 800,000 square meters. The

                                             university has a collection of over 2.5 million volumes in its libraries,

                                             possessing the national and global information retrieval system and

                                             offering its students ready access to the cyber world. In addition, it has 8

                                             modern stadiums, two of which were used as the major sports field for the

                                             National University Games, the National Series-A Football Match, the Finals

of College Men’s Soccer Tournament of China, as well as the East Asia College Socccer Match. It has two state-of-the-art

auditoriums and over 30 apartment buildings that are uesd as student dormitories. Beautiful and spacious, ZUEL

campuses are decorated with lakes, trees, grass and flowers.



ZUEL has a group of learned scholars who have prestige in the academic

world of management, economics, and law, both at home and abroad.
More than 45 professors are sponsored by the State Council of China, and more than 65 professors have been awarded

the title of Young Experts of Hubei Province with Prominent Contributions to the Country with expert allowance. In the

past 25 years, the faculty has accomplished over 400 items of key research projects at the state and provincial level.

Among which, 100 items were the projects of the State Social Science Fund, the State Natural Science Fund, and the key

project of the Ministry of Education, 187 of these being the key projects were sponsored by the Ministry of Finance and

the Ministry of Justice. The faculty has made over 30,000 research contributions, including more than 1,300

monographs, more than 1,700 textbooks, and more than 21,000 articles, with more than 500 publications in foreign

countries.



In the fields of international academic exchange, ZUEL has developed a worldwide cooperative research and academic

exchange relationships with universities and research institutions of more than 20 countries and regions in Asia, Europe,

America, and Australia.



Zhongnan University of Economics and Law is open to all educators, scholars, and students from all over the world.

Since the 1950’s, we have nurtured many international students. In the past 58 years, ZUEL has cultivated more than

200,000 students and has made great contribution to the development of China.

In the past fifty-seven years, Zhongnan University of Economics and Law (ZUEL) has experienced trials, hardships and

changes, and is now marching forward bearing the hopes of the founding fathers of the People’s Republic of China and

the great trust of rejuvenation of education in China. With devoted labor of several generations of the administrative

staff and the faculty, the University has now developed into a renowned university under the Ministry of Education of

China with full-range educational levels, proper academic structure, remarkable comprehensive superiority, and

profound overall strength. The University has developed into the important training base in China of the elites of such

disciplines as finance and law as well as the influential research base and policy consulting center of humanities with

economics, law, and management which enjoy so good a reputation at home and abroad as the backbone, and literature,

history, philosophy, science and engineering as coordination. Large numbers of students have graduated from our

university and have become the backbone of the society and the pillars of our country with their great contribution to the

economic development and the construction of democratic legal system.



As time goes by, the great academic achievements of ZUEL remain shining through the ages. At present, the blueprint

of the University promises a bright future. Under the circumstances of popularization, informationisation, and
globalization of education of higher learning in China, the University, sticking to the guiding principle of achieving

first-rate rank and highlighting special features, has clarified the development orientation of the University focusing on

research and teaching, put forward the objective of building the University into the comprehensive and first-class

university of humanities and social sciences with economics, law, and management as the backbone, set up the

cultivation pattern for talents with the feature of applicability and developing strategy of scientific research, established

the developing policy of disciplines by way of disciplinary integration and intersection to promote disciplinary

development. Centered on the policy of reform and development, the University has established and perfected such

three programs as development strategic program, disciplinary construction and faculty training program, and campus

construction program. The University has started a Rejuvenation Project, namely, the establishment, rejuvenation,

reinforcement and beautification of the University with disciplines, talents and scientific research. The University has

also promoted and executed interior administrative system reform with the reform of personnel allocation system and

socialization of logistic services as the core. With system construction and innovation on a large scale, the University has

made remarkable achievements in various fields and the overall strength of the university has been quickly upgraded,

social influence greatly expanding, competitive power greatly strengthened.



Forecasting the future, bearing the motto Learned, Rational, Virtuous and Devoted, we are confident to make great

strides with vigorous efforts and build our university into the first-class comprehensive university of humanities and

social sciences of our country.

 Features: Applicable, Integrated, and Open


Along with the globalization of education and the intensity of competition among universities and colleges of our country,

the features for talents cultivation have increasingly become the lifeline of the universities for survival and development.

As the biggest national talents cultivation base of finance, economics and law, and during more than half a century of

accumulation and development and reform, the University has gradually developed the school-running concept of First

Class, Special features as well as the cultivation mode of Applicable, Integrated, and Open. Thus the competitive power

has been formed.
The predecessor of the University was Zhongyuan University founded in 1948 by the Central China Bureau of Central

Committee of the Chinese Communist Party with Deng Xiaoping as the first Secretary. The initial objective of the

university was to cultivate specialized talents who were acquainted with economics and law and good at management

for the new China to be founded. To meet the urgent needs of national construction, Zhongyuan University ran the

school primarily in the form of training cadre students, who were immediately engaged in the economic and legal

construction of our country after being trained at different periods. This peculiar historical background made our

university differ at very beginning in the nature, objective and style of running school from other universities. The

greatest difference lies in the concept of running a university with special features.




 Guiding Principle: Achieve First-Rate Rank and Highlight Special Features


During the adjustment of universities and colleges of our country in 1953, the teachers of finance, economics and law

were summoned to teach at Zhongyuan University, which served as a starting point and provided our university with a

comparatively strong faculty force for cultivation of talents with special features. During the upheavals of the society in

the following fifty years, though the sites and names of the University were changed several times, colleges and

departments underwent rearrangements, and teaching system and disciplinary structure were adjusted on a large scale,

the concept of Achieving First-rate Rank and Running the School of Special Features has been passed on from the first

president Fan Wenlan to the present leading group.




 Objective:


In the recent five to ten years, we aim to build our university into world famous and first-rate university of humanities

and social sciences in China.
The ideas of disciplinary construction are Highlighting Core Disciplines and Cultivating the Disciplines of Special Features.

Superior resources will be concentrated on the core disciplines as economics, law, and administration with an extension

of these three major disciplines to the field of secondary disciplines. Disciplines like literature, history and philosophy

will be brought to intensive practice. It is necessary to cultivate the disciplines that are closely connected with demands

of present society, especially some applicable disciplines relevant to economics, law and administration, which are

suitable for the development of research of pure theory and can be taken as the support of disciplinary construction. As

to the disciplines of science and engineering, they are to be based on the core disciplines. We are to fully cultivate

frontier and interdisciplinary subjects and stick to the development of special features of disciplines.

  An Introduction to School of Accounting



The School of Accounting now has two major disciplines: accountancy and financial Management, the former being

authorized to enroll postgraduates in 1978 and to confer master’s degrees in 1981. In 1986, the discipline of

accountancy was authorized to start the doctoral program and to confer doctor’s degree. It started its postdoctoral

program in 1995 and was accredited by the Ministry of Finance in 1997 and Ministry of Education respectively as the key

discipline on the ministerial and state level. In 1994, ACCA Test Training Center was established. In 2004, the discipline

was listed as one of the 21 experimental units on the state level to try the conduct of MPAcc. At present, the two

disciplines enjoy strong faculty force, full academic orientations of research, good quality of teaching, and great prestige

home and abroad, and have become the cultivating bases of the talents of accounting, auditing, and finance.



 Major Research Orientations



Accounting Theories, History of Accounting and Auditing and the Ideological History, Financial Accounting, International

Accounting, Auditing, Accounting of Cost Management, and Enterprises Finance, etc.



 Academic Team and Forerunners



The School of Accounting owns a teaching staff with high academic background and academic titles, ideal age structure,

and remarkable achievements in scientific research. There are now 65 full-time teachers, among which 44 have doctor’s

or master’s degrees, with a percentage of 67%. There are 15 professors and 24 associate professors, with the

percentage of 23% and 40% respectively. Two of the teachers are the chief members of international academic

institution of accounting, and one is the person-in- charge of prestigious international academic society. 6 teachers have

been granted the State Council expert allowance. 4 teachers are now major person-in-charge of national academic

society and 20 teachers are now directors and members of national academic societies of accounting. 18 teachers hold

the positions of chief editor, deputy editor, compilers of important academic periodicals of our country. A disciplinary

and academic team has thus been formed with a group of prestigious scholars Guo Daoyang, Luo Fei, Zhang Longping,

Xia Chengcai, Tang Guoping, and Xu Jialin as its forerunners.



 Major achievements in Scientific Research
In recent years, over 600 theses have been published on various academic journals, and over 100 textbooks and

monographs have been compiled and published. The School has taken up over 50 research projects of educational

reform of accounting sponsored by State Natural Science Fund, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Finance, and the

Department of Education of Hubei, many of which have been awarded prizes of scientific research on the state level and

ministerial and provincial level. The research of Chinese history of accounting and auditing remains in the leading place

home and abroad, and has filled the vacuum of research of Chinese history of accounting.



 Objectives of Disciplinary Construction



We are striving to build the discipline of accountancy into world-famous key discipline on a state level with first-rate

academic team, good quality of cultivation, rich achievements in scientific research, first-class facilities for teaching and

research, and high level of management. We are also determined to build Financial Management into first-rate key

discipline at home.



  An Introduction to School of Finance and Taxation



The predecessor of finance discipline was the department of Finance and Credits of Zhongyuan University founded in

1948, which was one of the earliest established disciplines of finance among the universities of the country. The

disciplinary program was authorized to enroll postgraduates in 1979 and to confer doctor’s degree in 1993. In 1995,

postdoctoral program was approved. The disciplinary of finance was accredited as one of the first key programs of the

universities under Ministry of Finance in 1997, and was accredited as the key program on the state level. In September,

2004, the program was accredited as The Accomplished and Innovative Discipline of Hubei Province.



With Yang Canming, Li Daming, Pang fengxi and the others as the disciplinary forerunners, the discipline of finance is

striving forward and has formed its own features: serving the development of local economy with local finance as the

focus of scientific research; taking the leading position among the universities of China with the sole research institute

of financial history and its research; combining the research of taxation policy with market economy and development

of enterprises with a breakthrough in the field of research of enterprises taxation planning.

 Academic Team



The School now boasts of an academic team with high educational backgrounds, high academic titles, well-balanced age

structure, and innovative spirit. There are 32 full-time teachers, including 12 professors, 10 associate professors, 9

lecturers, 16 doctors, 2 post doctors, 11 postgraduates.



 Major Achievements in Scientific Research



In the recent 5 years, nearly 40 scientific research projects sponsored at the ministerial and provincial level have been

undertaken and accomplished. More than 40 monographs and textbooks have been published. Over 80 theses have
been published in the authoritative journals such as Economic Research, Finance and Trade Economy, Finance Research,

Taxation Research.



 Academic Objective



To cultivate highly internationalized and localized administrators of finance with high quality, take the construction of

first-rate teaching staff as the basis, strengthen the fruits of disciplinary construction with high-quality scientific

research and teaching as support, build the discipline of finance into state-level key discipline that takes the leading

place and approaches the international advanced level.



  Introduction to School of Business Administration



The School of Business Administration owns one primary discipline of business administration and the post doctoral

programs of business administration and applied economics. The school is authorized to confer doctor’s degrees to the

6 programs of Enterprise Management, Industrial Economics, International Trade, Marketing, Technical Economics and

Management, and Tourism. Master’s degrees are offered to the 7 programs Enterprise Management, Industrial

Economics, International Trade, Agricultural Economy, Marketing, Technical Economics and Management.



There are now 124 administrators and faculty, among which 99 full-time teachers and 25 administrators. There are 21

professors, 46 associate professors, 26 lecturers, and 6 teaching assistants. 6 professors are entitled to Government

Allowance granted by the State Council, and one professor has been awarded the Outstanding Expert of Hubei Province.

Professors Wang Haisu, Xiong Shengxu, Chen Chibo, and Hu Lijun have been accredited Academic Forerunners of the

New Century at the ministerial and provincial level. Another 3 professors have been made the candidates of Academic

Forerunners of the New Century by the Ministry of Finance.



During the recent 5 years, over 1500 theses and 20 monographs have been published, which won 16 awards at the

ministerial and provincial level. 8 scientific projects have been conducted at the ministerial and provincial level.

Presently, more than 40 cooperative scientific projects are being conducted, 5 of which are sponsored by the state

natural science funds, 1 is sponsored by the state social science funds, and 1 is sponsored by the state postdoctorate

funds, 3 are planned projects of the Ministry of Education. More than 10 professors work as consultants for enterprises

or as independent directors.



The School will proceed to maintain and upgrade the superior strength and function in the research fields of Enterprise

Management, Industrial Economics, International Trade, Marketing, Agricultural Economics and Management, take full

advantage of disciplinary resources and superior teaching force, expand the research of relevant frontier disciplines and

overlapping disciplines, broaden the academic exchange with foreign universities, strengthen the cooperation with

enterprises and the transformation of scientific fruits, and build our school into the first-rate business administrative

school in China.



  Introduction to School of Foreign Studies



School of Foreign Studies owns two major programs: English language and Japanese language, and one postgraduate

program of English Language and Applied Linguistics. . The academic orientation is business English, legal English,

foreign language and culture, comparative study of East and West culture, business Japanese, British and American

literature, applied linguistics, and translation, etc..
The school adheres to the path of combining foreign language teaching with business, trade and law, fully utilizing the

disciplinary superior force of economics, administration, and law of our university to strengthen and stress the

interdisciplinary features with economics, law, and administration, as well as the application and research of language

in the fields of economy and law so as to cultivate multidisciplinary talents with a strong possession of the knowledge of

business, trade, and law.



With a comparatively strong academic teaching staff, the school is striving to cultivate new disciplines and academic

forerunners for the rapid development and progress of the discipline.



In recent 5 years, 6 theses have been published on the national core learned periodicals , nearly 400 theses have been

published on the periodicals at the ministerial and provincial levels. The teaching staff have also published 5

monographs, over 20 textbooks, and more than 40 books of various kinds. Recently, 5 scientific research projects at the

state and provincial level have been approved and are now being conducted.



Our objective is to further carry out educational reform in the areas of teaching ideology, context, and methods, develop

the comprehensive language skills of the students, stress interdisciplinary features of language and business and law,

so as to make the discipline one of the best among the universities of China.



  Introduction to School of Humanities



The discipline of philosophy of the school has a long history with two secondary master’s programs of Marxist philosophy

and ethics, and a doctorate program of enterprise ethics. The postgraduate program of Marxist Philosophy was

established in 1978, which was one of the early programs in the country. In 1993, the first postgraduate program of

ethics in Hubei Province was authorized to confer Master’s degree and the doctorate program of Enterprise Ethics was

approved in the year 2003.



During the course of development of the discipline of philosophy, great attention has been attached to the research of

basic theories. Based on the backbone disciplines and superior disciplines such as economics and administration of the

University, Philosophy of Economy, Philosophy of Administration, Economic Ethics, and Ethics of Enterprises (Ethics of

Administration) have been drastically developed.



 Major Academic Orientation



Study of Western Marxist Philosophy, Economic Ethics (including Ethics of Enterprises), Economic Philosophy (including

Philosophy of Administration), Historical Idealism and Social Historical Philosophy.



 Academic Team and Leading Scholars



The school has a well-balanced and potential teaching staff with such leading scholars as Liu Kefeng, Wang Yuchen,

Yang Qingrong, Hu Xianxin, and Zhu Shugang.



 Achievements in Scientific Research



In recent years, the faculty has published more than 300 theses in the core learned journals home and abroad, several

monographs and textbooks, and joined in and undertook several research projects at the state, ministerial and

provincial level, and some cooperative projects of China with the universities in Europe.
 Objective of Academic Construction



The school is striving to sustain the superiority of traditional discipline of economics philosophy and economic ethics,

strengthen the construction of new branches of learning such as Marxist philosophy, and intensify the construction of

doctorate program of enterprise ethics.



  Introduction to School of Information



Statistics is the key subject at the provincial level. The department of statistics held the qualification to offer the Master

degree and PHD in Statistics in 1981and 1986 successively. The department of statistics has made great achievements

in training talents, establishing disciplines and scientific research. The staff has publish more than 40 textbooks and

reference books, over 400 theses, and trained nearly 1000 The leading scholars are Xiang Shujian, Xu Yingmei, and Liu

Hong.



The subject of computer science and technology takes computer as the foundation and focuses on the combination of

economics, law, and administration.



Academic Team and Forerunners : The School of Information owns 52 professional teachers, among which there are

six professors, Ten of them have been awarded doctoral degree. The prominent scholars are Yang Yunyan, Liu

Tenghong, Zeng Qingwei, He Youming, Song Kezhen, Zhu Shaolin, Zhangkai, Ye Huangzhou and etc.



 Major Academic Orientation: Study of the theories of systematic science, models of information system, systematic

exploration of environment and tools, application of computer in management, application of data base and managerial

information system, computer network and technology of e-business.



 Major Achievements in Scientific Research: A dozen of monographs and more than 20 textbooks have been

published. More than 20 research projects have been conducted such as Management System of Investment of Three

Gorges Project, System of Electronic Administrative Affairs of Huizhou City, Taxation Administration System of Hubei

Province. Besides, nearly 500 theses have been published.



 Objective of Disciplinary Construction: The school has planned to carry forward the superiority of traditional

disciplines, bring the strengths of present branches of learning into full display, and explore new subjects. We pledge to

exert great efforts in running the two undergraduate subjects of Information Management and Information System, and

E-Business. We will intensify the construction of two postgraduate programs, namely, Management Information System

and Application Technology of Computers. The establishment of postgraduate programs of Computer Software and

Theories and Management Science and Engineering is under consideration. It is desirable that the doctorate program

Economic Information Management will enroll candidate in the year of 2006.



  Introduction to School of Journalism and Mass Media



The school has two undergraduate programs including Journalism and Mass Media with the academic orientation of

Economic News and Law News, which are based on the superiority of the disciplines of economics, law, and

administration of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law. The mission is to cultivate multidisciplinary talents with

the knowledge of journalism, economics, and law. Now, the graduates of the school have displayed more advantages in

finding employment than the students of the same subject in other universities. Taking education of features as the
basis, the school has established an interdisciplinary academic team with Professor Li Daorong and Associate Professor

Wang Meifang as leading scholars, whose major concern of research lies in Economic News, Law News, and Media

Management. Postgraduate program of Journalism and undergraduate programs of Advertising are being nurtured. In

addition, the school owns a teaching staff of literature and arts, and a postgraduate program of arts as well as two

undergraduate programs of arts design (advertisement design and cartoon design) will be started in the near future.



The objective of the school is to foster an academic team with journalism as the trunk, literature and arts being the

wings.



  Introduction to School of Economics



The discipline of Theoretical Economics is one of the subjects with the longest history in our university. The subject

comprises Political Economics, Economic History, History of Economic Ideology, Western Economics, Economics of

Population Resources and Environment, Regional Economics and National Economy Management. The past 50 years

saw many renowned domestic scholars teaching courses of the discipline: Ma Zhemin, Zhu Jiannong, Wu Chenghua,

Zhang Jitao, Hou Houji, Zhao Dexin, Xia Xingyuan, Zhao Lingyun, Lu Xianxiang, and Liu Sihua. With the strenuous

efforts of several generations of the scholars, the discipline of Theoretical Economics is on the front rank of the

universities of the same discipline, and enjoys great prestige in the international academic world. Also on the front rank

of the country are the study of China’s Underground Economic Issue, Economic History of the People’s Republic of China,

Economics of New System and Transformed Economy, and Sustainable Development Economics. During the recent 5

years, several scientific projects sponsored by state natural science funds and state social science funds have been

conducted. The overall objective of the construction of Theoretical Economics is to build the discipline into first-rate base

in our country with special features and superiority as the basis so that it can be the key base of scientific research and

teaching for the cultivation of high-ranking talents of economic theories.



  Introduction to Law School



As one of the three mainstream disciplines of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, the discipline of jurisprudence

originated from Zhongnan Institute of Politics and Law and the Law Department of Zhongnan University of Finance and

Economics. Law School comprises eight departments: Theoretical Law, Constitution and Administrative Law, Criminal

Law, Procedural Law, Civil and Commercial Law, Economic Law, International Law, International Economic Law, one

teaching practice centre, and 12 research institute such as Research Center of Jurisprudence.



The school has 3 doctorate programs: Legal History, Constitutional Law, and Civil Law, 9 master’s programs of

jurisprudence with the authority to confer JM degrees on more than 30 academic orientations. The school has 4 key

disciplines at the provincial level, namely, Civil and Commercial Law, Constitution and Administrative Law, Legal History,

and Economic Law. There are 9 secondary subjects, namely, Legal Theory, Legal History, Constitution and

Administrative Law, Criminal Law, Procedural Law, Civil and Commercial Law, Economic Law, Environment and

Resources Protection Law, International Law. Professor Wu Handong has been elected into the Humanities and Social

Science Committee of the Ministry of Education of China. Professors Chen Xiaojun and Qi Huaiyuan have been hired as

experts of national evaluation of undergraduate teaching quality. 11 professors, such as Qi Wenyuan, Liu Maolin, Fan

Zhongxin, Chen Jingliang, Li xihui, Lei Xinghu, Yao Li, Xia Yong, Liu Dahong, Fang Shirong, and Lu Zhongmei, have been

elected leading scholars of the ZNUEL.
In the recent 5 years, the faculty have published 2100 theses in the authoritative and core journals such as China’s

Social Science, Law Study, Chinese Laws. They compiled more than 130 textbooks planned by the state, textbooks for

nation-wide use, recommended textbooks, textbooks at the ministerial level, innovative textbooks, and so on. More

than 110 monographs have been published.



The objective of the school is to build the school into the first-rate and research type law school with international

prestige.



  Introduction to School of Public Security



The School of Public Security is a teaching and research institution of basic theories and practical skills with the focus on

such subjects as Science of Criminal Investigation, Public Order Management, and Administration of Border Defense.

Based on Jurisprudence, Science of Administration, and Economics, the school emphasizes the features of public

security education, and explores the educational mode of public security that displays the spirit of the times.



The school owns 8 full-time and part-time professors, 18 associate professors (including senior technicians), 13 lectures

and teaching assistants, who form an academic team with high academic titles and educational background, rational

age structure, rigorous scholarship, and profound academic achievements. The leading scholar is Professor Yang

Zonghui.



The faculty of the school have published more than 20 monographs and 500 theses in the learned journals home and

abroad. They have also undertaken 20 research projects at the state or provincial level.



The school is attempting to build the School of Public Security into the key discipline of Hubei Province that will take a

leading place in the country.



     Introduction to School of Public Administration


The School of Public Administration owns 3 doctorate programs of Labor and Social Security, Labor Economics, and Civil

Economics, and 5 master’s degree programs of Administration of Government Affairs, Social Security, Labor Economics,

Civil Economics ( Macro-Economics orientation), Administration of Enterprises (Administration of Human Resources

orientation). The school is also authorized to confer MPA. There are now more than 1400 doctorate candidates,

postgraduates, and undergraduates.



The school has a staff of 45, among which are 33 full-time teachers, with 70% of master’s degree or higher. Many of the

faculty are prestigious experts and scholars well-known in Hubei Province and in China. Some of them take the chief

positions in the academic organizations on the state, provincial and city level.



The school comprises such departments as Labor and Social Security and Administration of Government Affairs, and

such research institutes and centers as social security, Labor Economics, public administration, human resources,

Community and Community work. There is a key research base of humanities and social science of universities of Hubei

Province--- Hubei Employment and Reemployment Research Centre. The School also runs a magazine Labor

Employment and Social Security which is open to the public.



During recent 3 years, the faculty have published over 10 monographs, works of translation, textbooks with high

academic quality, 120 academic theses. They have undertaken more than 20 research project on the State, Provincial,
and ministerial level, among which one project sponsored by China Natural Science Funds, one project sponsored by

National Social Science Funds,1 project for bidding sponsored by the Ministry of Education. Many achievements in

research have been awarded prizes by the state, provincial government, and ministry. The academic team with Zhao

Man, Xu Shuangmin, Chen MingQuan, Wang Changcheng, and Zhao Li as the leading scholars is growing significantly.



The school will allocate disciplinary resources to balance the teaching strength. They invest more in scientific research,

and apply in the active way for the doctorate program of Administration of Government Affairs. We will also try to build

Public Administration into the first-class discipline, Social Security key discipline on the state level, as well as a key

research base of humanities and social science on the state level.



     Introduction to Xinhua School of Banking and Insurance


The disciplines of Banking and Investment of Xinhua School of Banking and Investment have a long history with the

Department of Banking established in Zhongyuan University in 1950 while the subject of Investment was established in

1956 based on the subject of Finance and Credit of Capital Construction. In May, 2000, the school of Banking was

established on the basis of Department of Banking and Department of Investment of the School of Finance and Banking.

In September of the same year, sponsored by Xinhua Life Insurance, Inc. the school changed into Xinhua School of

Banking and Insurance.



With the professors like Ma Jun and Zhang Zhonghua as leading scholars, Banking and Investment have developed its

own features, remarkable in the study of disciplinary theories and approaches to achieve high quality, multi disciplines,

and frontier science. In practical research, we focus on the applicability, innovation, and originality.

International Banking, Insurance and Risk Management, Banking Market and Banking Project.

The school owns an outstanding academic team of high educational background, high academic titles, rational structure

During the recent 5 years, the faculty has undertaken 59 various scientific research projects, published 33 monographs,

74 textbooks. There are also over 700 theses published in a variety of journals, such as Economic Research, Financial

scientific research.

The University owns full-time teaching and administrative staff of 2179 members, including 1,173 teachers, among

which thee are 205 professors, 429 associate professors, 65 doctoral supervisors. The University has 1 key research

base of humanities at the state level, 2 key disciplines at the state level, 4 key research bases of humanities at the

provincial level, 15 key disciplines at the ministerial and provincial level, 34 undergraduate programs, 41 master

programs, 24 doctoral programs, and 3 post-doctoral programs. The University is also authorized to confer MBA, EMBA,

JM, MPAcc, MPA, ME (Master of Education) degrees, and enrolls students from overseas as well as from Taiwan, Hong

Kong, and Macao. It also enrolls approximately 19,000 full-time undergraduates, 4,200 postgraduate students, doctoral

students, post-doctoral students, and 11,900 adult and part-time students.



The University has a group of learned scholars with academic prestige in the academic world of finance, economics, and

law, home and abroad. More than 40 teachers enjoy the expert allowance of the State Council of China, and more than

20 teachers have been awarded the title of Young Experts of Hubei Province with Prominent Contributions to the Country

with expert allowance. Recently, the faculty has accomplished 375 items of key research projects at the state or

provincial level, among which 150 items were the projects of the State Social Science Fund, State natural Science Fund,

and key project of the Ministry of Education, 87 being the key projects sponsored by the Ministry of Finance and the
