YouTube - How to Begin Slide 1 Slide 2 Slide 3 Slide 4 To become a member of YouTube, go to the "Signup" page. Click "sign-up" on the YouTube home page; or go directly to http://www.youtube.com/signup Slide 5 Complete the form. Choose a username and password, and enter your information. Then click the "Sign Up" button and you're done. [NOTE: You may need to alter your choice of "username" if it is already taken by someone else. If you anticipate wanting friends, family or colleagues to recognize messages or files within YouTube as being associated with you, then you need a "username" that clearly identifies you.] Slide 6 Slide 7 Click "Upload Videos" in YouTube page [after you've logged in using your YouTube account]. It will most likely appear near the very top of the page, possibly in the center. Slide 8 Click "Upload Videos" wherever you find it! Perhaps in the upper-right-hand corner [after you've logged in using your YouTube account]. Slide 9 Enter as much information about your video as possible, including Title, Description, Tags, and Category. The more information you include, the easier it is for users to find your video! Slide 10 Click the "Continue Uploading" button [near the bottom of this Web page]. Slide 11 In the next window, click the "Browse" button to browse for the video file. Select the file you want to upload. Slide 12 Determine if you want your video set to Public or Private. Then click "Public" or "Private." Slide 13 Click the "Upload Video" button. Slide 14 Watch this progress bar change as your video file is being uploaded! Slide 15 This is how the next screen will appear - after the first part of the file upload process has completed. Slide 16 Again, you have an opportunity to insert some additional info about your video - make it more likely others can find it and use it. Note that IF YOU HAVE INDICATED YOU WANT YOUR VIDEO TO BE ACCESSIBLE TO THE PUBLIC (NOT PRIVATE) you can already copy the URL for your video, even though it is not actually ready yet for viewing on YouTube! Slide 17 This shows the same screen as the previous one with some info inserted. Slide 18 This is the bottom of the same screen. Note that IF YOU HAVE INDICATED YOU WANT YOUR VIDEO TO BE ACCESSIBLE TO THE PUBLIC (NOT PRIVATE) you can already copy the chunk of HTML code for your video that will allow someone to display it as a clickable image on any Web page. Slide 19 Remember to click on "Update Video Info" at the bottom to be sure your additions or changes get saved along with your video. Slide 20 This is how the next screen will appear - after the first part of the file upload process has completed. Now you need to wait! Slide 21 Slide 22 If you refresh this screen once in a while - as often as your impatience requires eventually you will see these 2 changes: A note that your "Video details have been updated" and, even more exciting, one or more images from your video will appear in these little TV screens. That means everything is finished and you can now do several different things to share yoru video with others. But, as they say, that's another story! Slide 23
