Go “On Line” for Your Student’s Information
Parents are encouraged to frequently make use of our Maquoketa Valley web page and the Pearson School Systems CenterPoint (formerly called SIPS). This is a handy place to go “on line” and check all information about your children, such as attendance, schedules, grades, progress in a class, email from or to a teacher , or especially to check lunch accounts. If you have not been using Pearson CenterPoint and need to get started again, please contact Cheryl Gates at the Administration building who will assign you a new password. Along with the new password comes a letter with instructions to “walk you through” the procedure. You can also access the school newsletter on line by bringing up the Maquoketa Valley web page at the usual address which is http://www.maquoketa-v.k12.ia.us For help, just call 563-922-9422 or email Cheryl at cgates@maquoketa-v.k12.ia.us
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers to be Performed
Maquoketa Valley High School Theatre and Music Departments will be presenting Seven Brides for Seven Brothers on November 9, 10, and 11. This show, based on Stephen Vincent Benet's story “The Sobbin' Women,” came to life first as an MGM film and later in 1981 became a musical on Broadway.
Fitness Room Update
There have been three Maquoketa Valley patrons who have called with an interest in going through an orientation to use the MV Fitness Room. We are asking that we take at least three more calls before we schedule an orientation. If you are interested in using the MV Fitness Room, and have not yet called to get your name on a list, please call Cheryl Gates at 563-922-9422.
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers centers around the Pontipee brothers, seven young men, who live in the backwoods of Oregon in the 1850s. The brothers, tired of bad cooking and doing house chores, urge their oldest brother Adam to get a wife. While trading in town, Adam finds and falls for Milly. After they marry, Adam takes Milly to his home. When she arrives, Milly doesn't realize what she has gotten herself into - a house full of seven guys who don't cook, clean, sew, or do laundry. This spunky lady is determined to change things; not only does she help them keep a clean house, she also teaches the brothers how to behave. With Milly's help, the boys go to the town social and fall in love with the girls of their dreams. The townspeople and girls' suitors are threatened and this happy social turns into a brawl where the Pontipees have been banned from town. At home, the brothers long for their “girls” so Adam suggests that they kidnap them like the Romans did with their sobbin' women. Will the boys end up with their girls or will they live by themselves for the rest of their lives? You'll have to attend the show to find out.
Performances of this musical will be held Friday and Saturday, November 9 and 10 starting at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, November 11 starting at 2 p.m. Tickets will go on sale beginning November 1 and will cost $5. Call the high school office at (563) 922-2091 to reserve your tickets. All tickets are nonrefundable and nontransferable. This will be a show you won't want to miss.

Temperature Change
As winter and the cold weather approaches, our building temperatures will be set from 65 to 70 degrees. Parents are encouraged to dress your children appropriately. It is perfectly acceptable for your child to wear a sweater or sweatshirt in class in order to stay comfortable. The MV Administration recommends that when we are expecting nasty weather, please listen first to the radio stations of WMT, KMCH or KDST. MV also reports their school closings and cancellations to 3 TV stations: KGAN (2), KWWL (7) , and KCRG (9), but TV Channels 7 & 9 seem to have trouble getting the announcements correct. When bad weather hits, it’s best to turn to the radio stations. Please DO NOT call the school. Their lines will be busy contacting personnel, other schools, bus drivers, etc.
