COMMANDER’S REPORT
The fall conference is over for those of you that could not attend. You don’t know what you missed. There is a lot of information about the Good of the Legion that I didn’t know about and was glad to find out. The people and Brother Legionaries you meet are in my opinion just like us. The names are not the same, but the people are the same. family. All are like If you have been watching, the new property is coming along nicely, thanks to Merle and his crew. They have been working hard on the improvements. If you have some free time on your hands, drop by and ask if there is anything you can do to help. The property that is being taken away is still in the hands of our attorneys, and there is nothing new to report. If you have been noticing, our dinners are getting bigger and better every month. This is thanks to the hard work of the kitchen crews from the Legion, Auxiliary, SAL, and the Legion Riders. You need to drop by now and then and let them know what a great job they are doing. The Finance Officer of Post 283 due to personal reasons, has resigned, so if anyone wants to step up and help, let me know. I want to wish all of you a Happy Veterans Day and a Happy Thanksgiving. Please keep the brave men and women in our military in your thoughts and hearts.

AUXILIARY PRESIDENT’S REPORT
I can’t believe October has already come and gone. Our Halloween parties were a big success. We owe thanks to so many people who contributed. A giant thank you to the talented crew that constructed the awesome haunted house. Also a special thanks you to Marie & her daughter AJ for donating the MIA/POW jack-o-lantern and the many others that donated their time and items for parties. With lots of help, we were also able to deliver 1,300 Halloween safety books to children attending 7 area schools. Our Veterans program sewing parties were very productive. We had a total of 24 members participate (including 3 juniors) that made 23 lap robes and 121 kit bags for veterans at VA hospitals around the state. Thank you to all that helped and donated their time, talent and fabric for this great program. We are still collecting items for the VA Hospital in Lake City. They need toiletries i.e., deodorant, toothpaste, big bars of soap, shampoo, aftershave/lotion/ cologne, denture cream/denture cleaning tablets and facial tissues. The Cook Books are still available for sale for $10 while they last. Please contact an Auxiliary member to purchase yours today. Our overseas coupon project is still going strong. Thank you to all who continue to donate their coupons. November 12 is the Veterans Day Parade and we will once again have our float. Plans are to enhance the float we made last year. Helpers will be needed. Also room is available to ride on the float. Come out & support our Veterans!!!!! Veterans come join us and enjoy the pride!!!! At our November general meeting, we have a special guest speaker from JSO that will be discussing ways to remain safe during the holidays with all the travel and shopping. Be sure to attend and bring family & friends with you to hear the important message. Mark your calendars, November 25th, the Auxiliary junior members are hosting a pancake breakfast from 8am to 10am. They are raising funds for the little heroes’ bear program. Be sure and come out & support their efforts. Dues for 2007-2008 are now due. Please see Patti Cleveland to renew your dues.
