Funding approved for Thanksgiving turkey donations
SAN BERNARDINO – The Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved funding to purchase at least 475 turkeys for community Thanksgiving celebrations for underprivileged families in San Bernardino County. Chairman Paul Biane and Fifth District Supervisor Josie Gonzales requested the $5,000 allocation from the Board of Supervisors’ priority policy budget. The Transitional Assistance Department (TAD) will use the money to purchase turkeys for Thanksgiving dinners hosted by community-based organizations. “The county will provide the turkeys so our community organizations can focus on the trimmings and serving needy residents during the holiday,” said Biane, who serves as the county’s Second District Supervisor. TAD estimates more than 1,250 San Bernardino County residents will attend free Thanksgiving dinners hosted by community-based organizations such as the Oldtimers Foundation, the Dorothy Grant Foundation, and Ephesians New Testament Church in Fontana.
