Who were the Pilgrims?
• People who came to America to be able to follow their own religion.

• The original Pilgrims were from England.

• Their ship, the Mayflower, landed near Plymouth Rock and they built a town there.

• The pilgrims did not want to belong to the Church of England.

What religion were the Pilgrims?
• The Pilgrims were Christians but they wanted to go to their own church instead of the church the King said they had to go to.

What was the Pilgrims problem?
• They settled during the winter and did not have enough food of places to live. Many people got sick and died the first year.

Who helped the Pilgrims?
• The Native Americans who lived near them helped them learn how to grow and catch food. They promised to be friends.

What was life like for Pilgrim children?
• Boys and girls spent most of their time doing chores. • Boys were able to learn to read and write. • Most girls could not go to school; they had to stay home and work with their mothers.

Why are the Pilgrims important?
• They celebrated what we now call Thanksgiving. • Today we remember their hard work and have a holiday to show how thankful we are to have freedom.
