1. Michigan eLibrary Background
MeL is the Michigan eLibrary, an anywhere, anytime library for Michigan residents. MeL contains magazine, newspaper and journal articles, books, and evaluated Web sites. MeL can be used by any citizen of the state at no charge 24 hours/day. MeL includes specialized resources such as those in genealogy, health, business, test preparation, careers and education. MeL contains general resources that cover all subject areas and has resources specifically for children and older students. MeL also provides eBooks and online courses.

About MeL
MeL is a project of the Library of Michigan, overseen by MeL Coordinator Deb Biggs Thomas.
Michigan Library Consortium provides support and training for MeL databases. MeL offers Evaluated Best Web Sites, Research Databases, MeL Michigana, Statewide Library Catalog (MeLCat).

History of MeL
MeL Funding
State of Michigan provides funds through the Library of Michigan.
Federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) supports MeL via the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) MeL cost approximately $3.9 million in 2006. In 2006, Michigan libraries, schools, colleges and universities saved over $193 million. State-funded databases are not universal!
