Exercise 1. Source Material: Your School’s VCE Performance

    1. This is part of a set of data printed in The Age newspaper each year in
       January. What do you think its purpose is?
    2. What do the following acronyms mean: VCE, VET, IB, VCAL.
    3. There are 11 types of information presented. Why were these types of
       information selected?
    4. What other data could be included? (think about the purpose of this
       information)
    5. Randomly select 10 schools (everyone will have a different set) and rank
       them from highest to lowest on VCE completions.
    6. Using the same 10 schools, rank them from highest to lowest on percent
       applying for tertiary entry.
    7. Using the same 10 schools, rank them from highest to lowest on median study
       scores. Choose a clear way of showing your answers to Qs 5,6,7.
    8. Analyse the rankings you have just done. Is there any correlation (link)
       between the rankings for each set of data?

    4.  Look at the data presented under the heading of ‘Tuition Fees’ and answer
        these questions:
    4.1 Would completing a Bachelor of Arts degree at Deakin be more or less
        expensive than at Victoria University?
    4.2 How much would it cost you to complete a Bachelor of Dental Science at
        Melbourne University?
    4.3 Could you complete a cheaper Bachelor of Dental Science at Monash
        University?
    4.4 Which is cheaper to complete? A Bachelor of Arts at Melbourne University,
        or a Bachelor of Engineering at Victoria University?
    5. Paragraph 9 gives data in textual form. Present this data more clearly.
    6. Display the advantages and disadvantages of the FEE-HELP system in a table.
