Job Description for Quality /Lab Technician
Summary of Position
Evaluation, preparation and the application of the facility quality program under HACCP
premises. Manage maintenance of the sanitation program.
Maintain and liaison with the CFIA inspector at all levels. Ensure inspection register is
current and updated regularly. Establish some best practices and operational procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Define food safety / quality assurance protocols in fish processing facility in
accordance with CFIA and customer expectations.
Identify, troubleshoot, document and initiate corrective action on all QA related
issues. Conduct daily QC checks
Document, monitor and carry out corrective actions on CCPs in accordance with
Quality Management Plan.
Ensures GMPs through continued monitoring, employee awareness, orientation and
Provide technical guidance to internal staff and customer.
Update QMP documents.
Lead food safety audit with customer and CFIA.
Post Secondary education in Food Science or related field ( Bachelor of Science,
Experience working in a processing environment.
Previous work experience in food, or specifically the fish industry is an asset.
Knowledge in HACCP, GMP’s and fish regulatory requirements
Experience with MAP packaging will have a competitive advantage.
Excellent organization skills and time management skills. Candidate must
demonstrate a high degree of initiative, sense of urgency and flexibility.
Candidate must be able to lead process and people and work independently.
This is a full time opportunity working 5 days per week.
Candidate must be available to work two Sunday’s per month
Position is located in Brampton; processing plant has fewer than 20 staff members.
The candidate will be required to work at times in a very cold working atmosphere.
