Re: Case No. U-15110

Dear Commissioners,

It is my pleasure to provide comment on the application of the Jackson 2-1-1 Call
Center, a program of the United Way of Jackson County in collaboration with the Capital
Area United Way, Hillsdale County United Way and LifeWays, for assignment of the “2-
1-1” dialing code and designation as the information and referral answering point for
Clinton, Eaton, Hillsdale, and Ingham Counties.

With the downturn in our economy more people are in need of health and human
services but really do not know how to access these services. Through the easy-to-
remember number, 2-1-1, people in need in our community can be connected with
services to help them. The Jackson 2-1-1 Call Center has provided comprehensive
information and referral services 24 hours per day, 7 days a week in Jackson County
since 2003 and has provided these services as a 2-1-1 call center since 2004. To date,
over 40,000 calls have been received by our call center. As a result of this action, 2-1-1
services will be available to our entire region. Through this partnership, our community
looks forward to kicking off the new 2-1-1 service for the five-county area in 2007.

I would like to offer support for the application of the Jackson 2-1-1 Call Center and look
forward to the implementation of 2-1-1 for Clinton, Eaton, Hillsdale and Ingham
