					Thanet District Council
Corporate Equality Plan 2008/09
Introduction
Thanet District Council (TDC) is committed to promoting fairness and inclusion.

We want to ensure that our services are accessible to everyone, that we are a fair employer, and that people are able to take part in all
aspects of community life regardless of their race or ethnic group, gender, disability, age, sexual orientation, religion or beliefs.

To help us do this, we have developed an annual programme of work which is set out in this Plan. The programme of work includes:

 Achieving Level 3 of the Equality Standard for Local Government (ESLG) by March 2009. The ESLG is a nationally recognised
framework used to embed equality and diversity in service delivery and is used by most Councils in the UK.

 Setting equality objectives and targets for each Council Service which are monitored on a monthly basis.

 Gathering and publishing a broad range of equality and diversity information about the Thanet area and Thanet Council. Analysing this
information and using the results to strengthen and improve the delivery of services.

 Consultation with community and voluntary groups about equality and diversity issues and using feedback from consultations to
strengthen and improve policy making, planning and service delivery.

 Using Equalities Impact Assessments to check our services and policies to see if they unlawfully exclude or discriminate agai nst
people, and if so to eliminate any discriminatory barriers.

 Publishing an annual report which tells the community how we have performed in meeting the targets set out in this Plan.
