HCOM 102, Public Speaking. This course introduces the student to the basics of speech making. It provides practical and theoretical perspectives for preparing, delivering and analyzing public speeches. The student can expect to deliver at least four speeches to a classroom audience and critique a professional speaker in the community. HCOM 324, Communication in Groups and Teams. This course familiarizes the student with the dynamics of small groups and team processes. Although the focus in on problem solving, the principles investigated apply to an array of purposes. A service learning assignment is included (see main menu). HCOM 325, Interviewing: Principles and Practice. This course exposes the student to the fundamentals of interviewing process. Specific investigations are made regarding the counseling, selection, journalistic, disciplinary, performance appraisal, persuasive and the survey interviews. The student will develop skills as both interviewers and respondents. A service learning assignment is included (see main menu). HCOM 333, Communication in Business and the Professions. This course is designed to expose the student to the theories and skills associated with communication in organizations. Student presentations include the briefing, the proposal, and the employment interview. A service learning assignment is included (see main menu). HCOM 437, Internship. This course is designed to provide the student an with opportunity to gain insights about classroom principles through hands-on practice in a community for-profit or non-profit organization. It involves 150 hours of on-site work plus eight in-class meeting hours. Interested students must make arrangements three months prior with Dr. Page. HCOM 479, Mediation: Theory and Practice. This course is designed to expose you to principles and practices of mediation as dispute intervention. Students receive knowledge and practice as mediators and simulated conflict participants. Knowledge gained should serve students throughout their personal and professional lives. A service learning assignment is included (see main menu).
