April 28 - 30, 2006 (NEW YORK, NEW YORK) – March 31, 2005 – Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC) presents Open Studio Weekend. With the largest residency program in the city, there are art events sprouting up the whole weekend including, performances by Shaun Leonardo, a tour with Robert Kaufman and studio visits with William Cordova, Sarah Bostwick, Miguel Luciano, Dan Tague, Christopher Saucedo, Kate Gilmore and more. Both, LMCC’s signature Workspace residency, and one-time, emergency Gulf Coast Artist Residency for artists displaced by Hurricane Katrina will be open to the public. Due to massive crowds last season, an RSVP is recommended. Free shuttles run between both residencies on opening night. El Conquistador vs. The Invisible Man with Shaun Leonardo. Shaun Leonardo portrays a Mexican luchador wrestling an invisible competitor, metaphorically and literally. Trapped inside a steel cage specially built for 15 Nassau, El Conquistador battles societal obscurity by literally becoming a spectacle in order to fight invisibility. www.elcleonardo.com 3. CAMEL presents a symposium. During their final weekend in residence, CAMEL hosts two days of workshops on real estate, labor, culture, and organizing in New York City bridging the radical divide between art and labor. Nsumi’s Collective Incubator is a space for art collectives to come into being, change, develop offshoots, or mutate into other things. Visit the multi-purpose installation, designed with downtown temps, interns, and freelancers in mind, and which includes free art materials and kit-making stations, a library-lounge and green wall. — JUST ANNOUNCED — RESIDENCY EXPANSION: BASED ON DEMAND, WORKSPACE WILL NOW BE A 9-MONTH PROGRAM. Take the 2,3 to Wall St; 4,5 to Wall St. Space donated by Silverstein Properties, Inc. 200 Hudson is in Tribeca between Vestry and Canal Streets. Friday night only, April 28: Downtown Connection shuttle van service stops at 15 Nassau (Cedar Street entrance) and 124 Hudson (Design Within Reach.)
