The site of the Delphi leaves the most powerful and lasting impression. The scene, from the ruins of the sanctuary is of the greatest possible grandeur.
ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE OF DELPHI Walk the sacred Way, and visit the treasures, the offerings, the grand Temple of Apollo and the theatre with its splendid acoustics. Above the ruined sanctuary rise the cliffs of the Phaedriades, cleft by a narrow but deep chasm, at the foot of which, gushes the Kastalian Spring. DELPHI VILLAGE Overhanging the gorge of the Pleistos, the modern village of Delphi is traversed by a single main street, lined with souvenir shops, brimming with brightly colored souvenirs and other products of the local crafts. DELPHI MUSEUM In the museum, you will find an outstanding selection of classical and archaic pieces. Top honors would go to the world- famous bronze statue of the Charioteer. This 5th century B.C. treasure was unearthed in 1896, after lying for more than 2.000 years under rubble from an earthquake. Astonishingly lifelike, he’s heading into his victory lap, with the look of calm pride on his face, and his eyes – made of onyx – are still intact. LUNCH Lunch will be served at a leading restaurant in Delphi. SIGHTS AND SCENERY Your journey to Delphi, considered by the ancients to be the physical and spiritual center of the earth, commences with a drive northwest, passing Thebes and Levadia.
